Didn't see this before tonight. Jon Ossoff and Dick Durbin are pushing for Death Penalty ban!

This would apply to Federal prisoners, not individual state prisoners.

Too bad it couldn't have gone through before the orange barbarian and Barr got their jollies last year executing almost 20 prisoners. That alone hopefully earned their admission into Hell.

1. Your post title is a bit misleading! Good thing I finished reading it.

I just could not imagine Senator Ossof being in favor of a Federal Death Penalty!

I hope he and Senator Durbin succeed.

2. Are any of the Rethugs who oppose this willing to submit to the death penalty?

No, of course not. Because they're hypocrites. Death penalty for others but not for them.

I must acknowledge I am inclined now to agree.

I have no moral objections to execution as the consequence of heinous murder, and in most instances when a cry of 'spare so-and-so' is raised, and I look into what the person was convicted of, I consider execution more than just.

I am certainly, however, open always to any plea of actual innocence, and there is a record established so firmly by now of prosecutorial fraud and the conviction of innocent defendants, that execution, however just, can not be in good conscience supported. There can be no doubt innocent persons have been put to death, and sometimes as the result not just of the ordinary frictions of a human system, but as a result of deliberate malice. A deliberate malice our system seems to have no means to either punish or deter.

9. I look at both sides of the story, even if the crime was heinous:

First, I don't think it's the right of a government or anyone to take someone else's life. Now:

1. If life is eternal, as I hope it is, someone "worthy" of being executed will spend eternity in Hell. Satan can wait 20-30 more years for his victim.

2. If one's existence ends with death, executing someone puts him/her out of his misery. It's over. To me, life in prison is MUCH more horrible than being extinguished. Make that one suffer in life, not in death.

Finally, if ONE person out of 100, or even 1,000, is innocent, not executing that one is much more important than killing the other 999.
