General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsHas the military become "politicized"?
Or do most of them not get involved in politics?
Trump was able to divide our military along Party lines. How many still support him?
Are there any Generals working behind the scenes with Trump and his conspiracists? We don't know.
But, with the possible default on funding for the Capitol Police, coming up as soon as August 12th, our government functions could be put into a very vulnerable position.
How secure is the White House?
Are the Generals in control considering any of these questions?
In my opinion, we should all be on high vigilance.

(25,237 posts)if he pushed them into a coup situation.
I thought about that and I question that plan.
They were united against Tr**p - but if they resigned - they would have left the opportunity for Tr**p to put in their place - his own loyal cronies.
Wouldn't that have played right into the hands of Tr**p and his plan to make the military his?

(111,069 posts)Trump would have found someone to take their place. That would have been the worse thing they could have done.

(66,307 posts)in 1992, a year before I got out of the Army, and at the height of the anti-gay 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' frenzy, I had fellow soldiers caution me against voting for Bill Clinton, because then the Army would be 'overrun' by gays, and we'd all have to be careful in the shower, yada, yada, yada...

(36,437 posts)Early in Trump's term I read that the enlisted were more inclined to support Trump & the officers were not. But over time, IDK. It seems there is at least a small contingent of Flynn types in military leadership. IMO, the military should do something about Flynn & send a strong message that his behavior isn't acceptable. IMO, there is much our side could do but we don't.

(36,437 posts)What the hell are they waiting for? I just don't get it. We never hold the other side accountable. That's partly why we're here. Our lack of action has emboldened them. Garland has said he will not look backward which is no different than looking forward. We are partly responsible for the clusterfuck that is today's America. The tragedy is, I don't see us changing our ways.

(2,120 posts)Certainly not "any" officer. I left Army active duty as a Major/O-4, but I resigned my Reserve Commission and I absolutely cannot be recalled.
"Some" retired officers may be subject to recall, but there are a lot of ifs, ands, and buts. It's complicated, but here is a summary:

Again, certainly not "any" officer.
