https://www.npr.org/2021/07/20/1018381498/sports-illustrateds-swimsuit-issue-trans-model-leyna-bloom"Model and actress Leyna Bloom has become the first trans person to appear on the cover of Sports Illustrated's swimsuit issue, the magazine's most famous and perennially bestselling edition.
"I dedicate this cover to all ballroom femme queens past, present and future," Bloom wrote on Instagram. "Many girls like us don't have the chance to live our dreams, or to live long at all. I hope my cover empowers those, who are struggling to be seen, feel valued."
The 27-year-old's star turn on the Sports Illustrated cover is just the latest on a growing list of barriers she's broken since she came out in 2014: one of the first trans women to walk the runway at Paris Fashion Week, the first trans woman of color to star in a film at the Cannes Film Festival, and the first trans woman to grace the pages of Vogue India.
"This moment heals a lot of pain in the world. We deserve this moment; we have waited millions of years to show up as survivors and be seen as full humans filled with wonder," Bloom tweeted."

(43,279 posts)"Hot Girl Summer" is now complete, as Megan Thee Stallion becomes the first rapper to appear on the cover of the Sports Illustrated's Swimsuit issue.
One of three separate cover stars, the Texan musician is joined by tennis star Naomi Osaka and model Leyna Bloom who will also front the annual issue which this year focuses on community as its theme.
"It definitely was a dream for me to be on Sports Illustrated Swimsuit," the 25-year-old told CNN over email. "And to be the first female rapper? Who else would they pick? I am just happy they chose the Hot Girl Coach!"
Her risque smash hit "WAP," featuring Cardi B, split the internet in two in 2020, with critics calling the track "an attack on American values" -- but the message of female sex-positivity struck a chord with listeners across the world.

(63,901 posts)therapy detail. She appeared in a transsexual swimsuit when we were all together a few weeks ago. She lives in North Hollywood, Calif. Her dad is a musician and her mother (my daughter) runs the costume department at Warner Bros. Studio. She is lucky to be there, where her sex transition is fine and her school district is proud to have trans students and provides lots of support.

(63,901 posts)quite naturally, a changing body. So I had to name it something and I figured "transsexual" was the best I came up with. We need a more expansive vocabulary, without being insensitive to privacy on the part of the individual and her parents.
Sorry, it's the best I can do...
