Romney left MA with a $1 Billion deficit

Fire up the way-back machine, folks...

This needs to become a campaign issue. When MA Governor Deval Patrick took office, he found out that Mitt Romney left him with an unpleasent suprise - A $1 Billion deficit.

BOSTON — Gov. Deval Patrick opened his first full day on the job yesterday with bad news, saying the state faces a revenue deficit of "at least" $1 billion in the next fiscal year.

Patrick said the Romney administration used "all kinds of patches and plugs" to obscure a looming budget shortfall in fiscal 2008. But Patrick, speaking during a break in a morning meeting with his cabinet, said he is confident that severe program and service cuts will not be needed to close the gap.
