Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) has accused public health officials of looking after the interests of public health.
The shocking allegation was made on Fridays edition of America Reports with John Roberts, who somehow did not immediately fall out of his chair at Cottons claim. (In fairness to the senator, he said it should be up to elected officials, not bureaucrats to make decisions about public health.)
Roberts played a clip of Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) spoke out against compulsory mask mandates for schoolchildren, saying Were not doing that in Florida.
White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki called the decision greatly concerning.

(16,837 posts)they're qualified to make conclusions about diseases and medicines and they can give advice on how to keep people healthy. Those decisions should be made by Congressmen and Senators who vote on issues according to which special interests contributed the most to their campaigns. We want the most venal among us to be making decisions on how to protect the public health.

(82,849 posts)You don't see public health officials getting wined and dined by deep-pocket donors and industrial titans, do you? All they seem to care about is people washing their hands or handling food properly so that it doesn't poison the person who eats it.
Let's let elected officials like Louie Gohmert and Marjory Greene decide what's in the best interest of public health. We'll be eating barbed wire served up on hubcaps before the month is over!

Hypocrisy much ?

But, I'm sure he was around when they slashed taxes for the wealthy 1% (of course) in 2017.
Most health care workers are appointed by governors, and other elected officials. I didn't know that Cotton was a doctor either (sarcasm here). He is a worthless attorney (his trade) and he's living up to his name (a shiftless attorney (in fairness, not all attorneys are such, but all republican lawyers are).
Usually from my understanding, health care workers were selected/hired/nominated by elected officials...what's his stupid issue? Afraid of losing a little power? Little want-to-be dictator.
