States scale back virus reporting just as cases surge

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Several states scaled back their reporting of COVID-19 statistics this month just as cases across the country started to skyrocket, depriving the public of real-time information on outbreaks, cases, hospitalizations and deaths in their communities.

The shift to weekly instead of daily reporting in Florida, Nebraska, Iowa and South Dakota marked a notable shift during a pandemic in which coronavirus dashboards have become a staple for Americans closely tracking case counts and trends to navigate a crisis that has killed more than 600,000 people in the U.S.

2. To be fair, the CDC, over the past couple of months...

...has been obfuscating the information on their site as well. Until they went back to the old format a week or so ago, it was practically impossible to get the daily cases/deaths numbers...and, even with that, since they only report six days a week instead of seven nowadays, it's still not as easy as it used to be to get day-by-day trends (and, frankly some of those day-to-day numbers haven't added up, in terms of the "total cases" versus "new cases&quot . Back when 45 was in charge, I could easily speculate about why they wanted to keep things under wraps; I have no idea why, under a new administration, they made the data harder to obtain recently.

3. Better watch out, you'll get smacked for being anti-science.

The CDC is all knowing and we must trust them to do what is right for us, and until then we must blindly follow whatever wisdom they dole out to us.
