(9,808 posts)any sleep because there are weird noises, people in and out of your room, those plastic pillows that don't support your head and neck, those crackly plastic covered mattresses, and so on and so on. I hope you get outta there soon so you can get a decent night's sleep and some good food!

(41,818 posts)Those damn beds that shift every time you seem to move and keep you up all night because of that whirling sound. It is certainly not fun being here.I have to admit the food is semi edible.
Did I mention the lousy Wi-Fi? The one that keeps dropping off every 10 seconds when youre trying to type things on your phone?
We are sorry. You are no longer connected to the Internet. Please try again.

(9,808 posts)the chaplain kept coming in and asking to pray with me and the pain medication they gave me made me itch so bad (which put me in a foul mood) but it didn't relieve my pain. I finally asked my brother to bring me some tylenol which worked just fine. Fortunately, I only had to stay one night!
Get better SOON!!!!

(9,958 posts)The media, from newspapers to television to cable, treats almost everything dealing with the effects of economic policy as business news that most people never see and thus they do not connect Republican with the fact that theyre earning very little more than they did two decades ago. It should be on the front page and every broadcast, reporting why for example Milton Friedmans economic policies were the rationale for Republicans to assist in the transfer of much of the nations wealth to the 1%.
The mainstream media mostly reports when a budget bill is proposed and passed or an infrastructure bill, but they rarely report on its effects months or years later. Reagans policies threw millions into poverty, but his Cold War and his war on government grabbed most of the headlines. He was a miserable president given far too much credit by historians.

Solar panels were installed in the late '70s during President Jimmy Carter's administration, but removed after Reagan's election in 1986.

Little Ronnie was nothing but a prop for reactionary conservatism and the unfettered greed of the moneyed elite, while pretending to be an "aw, shucks" champion for Joe Sixpack.
He managed to con folks into feeling good about themselves and their country while their pockets were being picked and our democracy was being turned into an oligarchy.

(3,622 posts)He had already proven himself in the role of Governor of California, and he stepped naturally into the role of President. He was never actually running anything, which is why it didn't make much difference when the Alzheimer's started to affect him; he still had his acting skills. Even when he was just a front man for General Electric he was always a spokestool for powerful interests that paid him to be their public face.
He destroyed the country because rich short-sighted fools wanted it destroyed in that way in furtherance of their short-term business interests and they didn't see that it was a strong middle class that made their businesses successful in the first place. He differed from the Republican presidents that followed him because while GWB was among the group pulling Reagan's levers he wasn't an actor and couldn't carry off the public relations part of the job. Dubya was under the mistaken impression that he was actually running things and surrounded himself with advisors who were far more foolish than those who ran Reagan's show. And of course TFG wouldn't listen to anybody except the puppetmasters who held his debt.
I graduated from high school in 1981 and the change in the world from my adolescence to my adulthood was clear and stark. Triumph had turned into humiliation and hope turned to grim despair. We had booted Nixon and replaced him with possibly the most honest man to ever hold the office, only to replace him with a figurehead who wouldn't even know whether the words he was saying were true or not and, in his professional capacity, was trained not to care.
Reagan's true status was always visible to anyone who wanted to see, but he was the beginning of our national dalliance with everything Orwell had predicted in 1984. The important parts came in right on schedule, and the torture centers and machines that track you everywhere you go while entertaining you eventually followed.

(34,333 posts)That's the point in time that this country really started swirling down the crapper. Reagan also had the brilliant idea to give real political clout to the nutball Religious Right. Before him, they were just a reliable voting bloc for the GOP that they could pander to every 4 years then forget about them after the election. Now, after 40 years, they embrace willful ignorance and the Talibubbas want to turn us into their own twisted version of Iran.
Have a good day and give the pup crew a scritch under the chin for me!

(4,552 posts)His campaign promise was to balance the budget, cut taxes and increase defense spending. I said no way would America believe that lie. Now that was an eye opener and a campaign method trump reproved. We are a stupid people.
What he did do when in power was destroy unions and the middle class. Also most Americans forget that he TRIPLED the deficit.
There was that secret war thing.
I do not think he was running the country in his second term. He was sick.

(1,000 posts)Babylon Sister posted a lovely story this morning about getting reamed by a Karen for buying a homeless man a water in Florida. Made me misty. Reagan destroyed the mental health system, he threw the mentally ill into the streets, the violent ended up in prison and the non violent remained in the streets. "Christians." I just had a Bezos fangirl ream me for not being sufficiently impressed on FB. I had a fantastic Sunday School Teacher when I was a kid, a cross between that English teacher every kid but me hated and Jimmy Carter. Which made my struggle with faith extremely difficult. I hate letting Mr. Ark down. I never dropped the F bomb until I was in my mid thirties, my running joke now is "hey, I don't have ulcers!" So fuck Reagan, and fuck Bezos bootlicker, and fuck "let the excess population die of dehydration" Karen. And now for my second cup of coffee.
Oh and might I mention, Nancy, as a D list actress decried "pretentiousness" before she went into the White House and suddenly every suburban matron was landed gentry, as their first Golden Calf killed their hubby's secure middle class job. Kind of like Melanoma's "Be Best" campaign. Who buys that bullshit?
