UK health officials on Friday issued a warning of an increased risk of catching the Delta variant even if someone has had Covid-19 before and urged caution as further investigations remain ongoing.

Public Health England (PHE), which monitors all variants of concern (VOC) in the country on a weekly basis, found the Delta variant cases have risen by 33,716 since last week to a total of 2,86,765 and continues to account for approximately 99 percent of Coronavirus cases across the UK.

"The Delta risk assessment has been updated to reflect early signs of increased risk of reinfection with Delta compared to Alpha [variant previously dominant in the UK]," the PHE said. "National surveillance analysis, adjusted for different variables including age and vaccination, shows a preliminary signal of increased risk of reinfection with Delta compared to Alpha," it noted.

3 months, and then you could get reinfected, so reinfection with delta does not seem so surprising.

9. Back When

We were seeing people who were infected early on with Alpha being reinfected after about 90 days, but with Delta it's much shorter. It's just that much stronger of a strain. As were also seeing breakthrough infections of the fully vaccinated, and the CDC is only tracking cases that are hospitalized. Delta is like the Hulk version of Alpha.

I saw former FDA commissioner, Dr. Scott Gottlieb, saying that anyone who is not vaccinated who doesn't get vaccinated in the next two to three weeks, EVERYONE who is unvaccinated will be infected with Delta. It's that damned contagious. Short of someone completely quarantining.

So, to walk back the cat, he's saying two/three weeks, plus two/three weeks between doses, plus at least two weeks to get to full immunity, that's six to eight weeks from now.

I feel like I need a damn booster.

15. Well I would certainly welcome a booster.

My full vaccination (2 weeks after the 2nd shot) was at the end of April. So it will be 6 months old right when delta is expected to be at its worst, in the fall. I have a box of 50 N95s. Maybe it's time to order another box.

Delta is what we feared might happen in mutations. It breaks through the vaccines. And it could get worse if delta (or amother variant) morphs into something that is more lethal as well as more infectious.

That's to be expected. As far as i know we are still waiting on numbers, but my observation is Delta also seems to be much more able to create breakthrough cases in vaccinated people.

8. Not surprising at all, think about a "common cold"

Just because I had a cold two years ago doesn’t mean I can’t get one this year. Why wouldn’t we be able to get Covid multiple times as immunity naturally wanes, vaccines lose efficacy and new mutations/variants emerge? There is no immediate finish line with a thing like this, it’s going to be around for a long time and there will always be some risk.

We wiped-out polio with vaccines, and the Clinton administration wiped-out measles with vaccines. There were a number of years where there was not a single case of measles in this country, until the rise of the anti-vax crazies in later administrations. If you get the cases down low enough, there just aren't enough people to infect and the virus dies off.
