https://thehill.com/homenews/house/564988-house-gop-blames-pelosi-not-trump-for-jan-6"On Jan. 6 these brave officers were put into a vulnerable and impossible position because the leadership at the top failed," House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) told reporters just outside the Capitol.
The accusations served as a prebuttal to the House select committee's investigation into the attack, which was set to kick off shortly after the Republican press conference without any allies of former President Trump on the panel.
Yet in a sign of just how partisan the debate surrounding the insurrection has become, the Republicans offered no critique of the former president, who had encouraged his supporters to march on the Capitol on Jan. 6 to block the certification of his election defeat the spark that inspired the deadly riot.
This is laughable partisan BS at its very toxic worst. Classic victim blaming. Ignoring the facts. And the sad thing is... most Republicans will believe it.

TRUMP hired the 'HIT MAN' (the insurrectionists).

I'm still predicting a True Blue Tsumani in both '22 and '24. I'll stand by that. I believe all of their attempted meddling with the rules will fall far short.

Didnt you know she planned the whole insurrection!
I asked that same question awhile ago and some poor excuse of a person said that to me .

(5,706 posts)If there were any concerns about the possibility of riots to happen, law enforcement would have not only passed that information on to her, but also to Minority leader McCarthy.
What I want to know is: Before it happened, why didnt law enforcement notice anyone wearing tactical gear/body armor?

(15,278 posts)made a very telling comment a few weeks ago on MSNBC. IIRC, he was on Deadline:WH and asked about the Dem centrists or holdouts. His reply was along the lines of Biden, Schumer, Dem leadership should just order them to "get (or fall) in line".
Steele never even gave it a second thought that Dems won't automatically walk in lockstep like Rs will when told to do it.

(2,541 posts)Actually aired this blatant lie is unforgivable. The FCC really needs to start engaging in holding media companies accountable when they propagate the false narratives the GOP repeatedly does. Just because it was the minority leader does not make this any less a demonstrable lie.

(8,329 posts)The Speaker is no more at fault than Mitch McTurtle and the former guy, As a matter of fact, possible less
The Capitol Police Board is made up of the House Sergeant at Arms, the Senate Sergeant at Arms and the Architect of the Capitol.
The House SAA is selected by the Speaker and then Elected by the House
The Senate Sergeant at Arms is selected by McConnell and voted on in the Senate
The Architect is appointed by the President (Trump) to a 10 year term that is confirmed by the Senate, so it looks like 2/3 of the Police Board was approved by Republicans.
Additionally, Paul Irving was first appointed by Speaker John Boehner and was held over by Speaker Pelosi.
The Speaker is not in charge of the life safety and security of the Capitol, the Police Board is.

gratuitous
(82,849 posts)Sure, there's all the video footage from that day, and the testimony of people who were there, and the utterly damning pep rally hosted by the soon to be former guy, and the e-mails and phone calls in the days leading up to it, and the soon to be former guy's tweets to his violent and volatile fanboiz, and all the rest of it. But is that really conclusive? Or even indicative? No! So it's obviously the Speaker's fault. Who are you going to believe, anyway? A mountain of evidence or the House GOP's craven and disingenuous excuse making?
