Her messaging sucks.

(58,785 posts)of its directors. That's not what the CDC was created to do. It's not a PR organization.
The CDC develops and issues the gold-standard scientific information and procedural advice depended on by governments, scientists and epidemiologists around the planet. Their experts coordinate and fight outbreaks on the ground, also around the planet. That's a lot.
Anyway, while we're on the topic, let's realize that in this toxic national environment no one could possibly overcome the pernicious messaging of all the dishonest and idiot mischiefmakers in our nation alone. Many of those are professionals whose own job is messaging and nothing but.

(7,715 posts)I heard her on the radio yesterday, and her messaging seemed clear to me. All of the masking advice was predicated on vaccinating. That was what she said a few months ago, and that is what she said yesterday.
I notice Fox etc are saying it is "confusing".

(36,220 posts)Saw her on CNN. It was as if there was no sense of urgency. She is just terrible. Lean in. Lean in. Throwing up her hands as if she is powerless. That is how she comes across to me.

(44,973 posts)As such, saying they should go around maskless makes no sense.

(44,973 posts)The advice cdc gave on vaccinated people not wearing masks and go around as if there was no pandemic was horrible.

(15,265 posts)Even before her tenure the advice from the CDC was not good. At the start of the pandemic we were told that we didn't need to mask and later told that we were told that because they wanted to reserve the available mask for medical professionals.
The decision to lift the mask recommendation seemed fool hardy at the time it was made and it has proved to be so. Are we their petri dish ? What harm would have come from keeping the mask order with a then new variant that had surfaced and so many Americans including children unvaccinated. I do not trust the recommendations of the CDC anymore. I need to filter them a as bit of information that is suspect.

(1,450 posts)They need to explain it like they are talking to third graders that never saw an iPhone. Draw the picture of the difference between the Delta virus and the original virus and how giving opportunity for infection gives more opportunity for variance. Without pictures one third of the population is lost and confused...thanks to our renewed attacks on education and science pushed by the GOP.
