Is the Republican leadership calling suspected witnesses and telling them to refuse subpoenas?

I have no evidence of that happening but that is something like they would do.

They want to unite against the truth until after the midterm elections. If they can keep the investigations at bay until then, they believe they are in for clear sailing?

It will be interesting to see who the Democrats subpoena as their first witness.

Perhaps they should subpoena a back-bencher who is not in constant contact with Mitch McConnell or Kevin McCarthy or Jim Jordan? Someone who was at the Capitol the day of the failed coup? Someone who has not been coached? Perhaps a new Congressperson? A surprise witness. Someone more likely to respect a subpoena?

Democrats need to set themselves for the long game, in my opinion.

But they no longer seem capable of distinguishing reality from their make-believe world?

Subpoenas are a different matter. A Republican administration simply ignored noncompliance with subpoenas from a Democratic House. I do think we can count on Mr. Garland to back the House with enforcement actions.

There's a reason they make the horses run all the way around the track before paying out at the ticket window. But action seems the way to bet.

so I took to google

The Congressional Subpeona: Power, Limitations and Witness Protection

https://digitalcommons.law.byu.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?referer=&httpsredir=1&article=1095&context=jpl

for some reason copy and paste wouldn't allow me to fully copy and paste but here's what I got out of it

Ignoring the subpeona is a misdemeanor, punishable by fine not more than $1000 but not less than $100 and imprisonment in a common jail for not less than 1 month and not more than 12 months.

Not sure if this helps anyone but I tried
