(115,673 posts)Police unions seem inclined to defend their members only when a member-cop is accused of killing a black person.
The Magistrate
(95,244 posts)They are combinations banded together to protect members from consequences for criminal behavior, whether physical abuse or theft or bribe-taking. In the course of that, they will extort as much money as they can from municipalities, and back with some of it the sort of retrograde politician who says about what they say to each other in the locker room about how things ought be run.

(115,673 posts)is to represent and support their members by means of collective bargaining in order to achieve fair wages and working conditions, police unions seem to have devolved into organizations that do little but make sure that their members can't be held accountable to their cities or the members of the public for any wrongdoing of any kind. Police unions are a big reason police so often get away with abusing or killing black people.

(10,643 posts)the FOP endorsed Trump. Irony. Of course he's worried about alienating Trump members. Tepper wouldn't let it go, either. I switched to CNN recently

(4,242 posts)as part of their job, has always publicly supported and defended police officers. That it is obviously quiet right now. That Laura Ingram mocked them openly and FOP is SILENT (Tapper's emphasis). That the hero officers of 1/6/21 seeking support from THEIR organization has been met with indifference. The FOP guy squirmed and denied all of this, but Tapper was ready with quotes and past/present actions.

(15,278 posts)most of their members support Trump and some FOP members participated in the Jan 6th riots. There hasn't been a peep of condemnation from the FOP for the latter.
