It looks like the worst of the possible derecho would miss us in Lansing but we're still included in the enhanced risk area for severe storms overnight. Charge up your phones and make sure your weather radio is on if you have one. I remember the derecho that slammed Michigan back in 1998 which slammed the Lakeshore around Holland and Grand Haven that caused significant damage. It nailed us in Grand Rapids, too.

(19,199 posts)had better batten down the hatches. It could blow a wall of water 6 or more feet high and carry away boats, docks, and every other thing not nailed down, plus lead to considerable flooding.
We had one come through northern Lake Ontario in the late 90s and it carried away a jet-ski, which was in a lift, never to be seen again. Gladly it wasn't mine, I hate the damned things, but my brother was quite upset, especially since it wasn't insured.

Shazam!
3.5-4 hours of absolutely howling straight line winds.
We only lost power for a few hour, but we had at least a half dozen branches a minimum of 3" across in the yard.
Seriously, I'm talking about 60-80# branches.
Like that all over town.
The 4 hour outage? I think we got lucky.
