(44,972 posts)I want a booster too, and I am concerned FDA is moving too slowly on it. Pfizer suggests that at six months your immunity is decreased and it's time for a booster shot.

(54,282 posts)My wife and I both got Moderna while in the USA last spring. If there is a booster widely recommended as highly effective, we'll get it, even if we have to travel back to the USA to get it.

(1,327 posts)This is the same issue facing all the people who got the J&J vaccine and want a booster of one of the RNA vaccines. Because the CDC has not approved anyone getting a 3rd booster, or anyone who is already vaccinated getting a different shot (a J&J person getting a Pfizer), the pharmacies will not vaccinate you. I've called around.
Call your congressperson and tell them this is important to you. I'm very frustrated because I feel like my spouse is woefully protected with just one shot of the J&J and the CDC/Biden administration aren't doing a darn thing about it.

The vaccine recipient "lottery" didn't require any effort to enter.
They automatically entered us, so they must have the vax list.
I'd think they would get a block message if you tried to enter your name again.

(14,624 posts)I talked to the pharmacist who gave me the vaccine and my doctor. Boosters have not yet been approved in the US. You cant just walk into a vaccination site and demand another shot.
When you got your first one, you were put into the database. Even if you dont have insurance, they know who has been vaccinated already.

Despite a lack of regulatory approval for boosters in the United States or Europe and the absence of definitive data, the Israeli experts concluded that the peril posed by the apparent waning of vaccine efficacy over time, alongside a spike in infections, outweighs the risk of pursuing a booster shot policy for the elderly.
The Israeli officials said protection against serious illness for those older than 60 who were vaccinated in January dropped from 97 percent to about 81 percent. For those older than 60 vaccinated in March, it fell to about 84 percent. They said efficacy remained at 93 percent for people ages 40 to 59 years.
The data released Wednesday by Pfizer, when viewed across the entirety of the six-month period covered in the paper, showed the vaccine was 91 percent protective overall. The findings come from the continuation of a large clinical trial that began last summer, so they do not include the period when the delta variant had emerged and become dominant.

(16,085 posts)Dont overreact. I was x2 with MODERNA..March n April n Im just doing what I did 15 months ago. The scientists, dealing with the data that changes all the time, will say if your fears are correct. You could make things worse for you.

(36,744 posts)Moderna doses were 2.5 greater than Pfizer. 100mcg vs 30mcg.
I highly suspect we Moderna folks are brimming with spike protein antibodies.

(36,744 posts)Difference between Moderna and Pfizer, after both doses.
I really should get an antibody titer done to see what level I am at.
Would be interesting.

(44,972 posts)mRNA.
It's the third dose given some months after the first two that makes the difference.

(36,744 posts)I would like to see Moderna booster data before I make that assumption. You are just quoting Pfizer stats.

(4,149 posts)I considered the same thing after seeing that the vaccine can lose a bit of efficacity over time. California maintains records of who has had the vaccination, and you cannot get a 3rd. . . . Considering there are lots of people who have refused their vaccination, I don't see how it could hurt. In any case, I work in a hospital, and vaccinated staff members have been coming down with the D variant, and I don't particularly want to. I guess it's time to be vigilant with the mask wearing. . . We have to wear them at work which is fine with me, as I wear one at all times when indoors.

(144,919 posts)My son is also in the original Pfzier trial and got his first round of shots back in August of last year. My son thinks that he got the booster and not the placebo in that he has been running a fever and his arm hurts for the last two days. This is similar to but slightly more severe than what he felt after his second Pfzier shot
I am tempted to go off label and get a third shot
