was right and proper. They sympathize, and many have been in her place.
There are times when you just shouldn't go on.

then you should trust the GOATs judgement about whether or not she is able to perform at her best level.
The GOAT should know, right? She knew, I trust her.

It looks like 1968 was a big turning point in balance beam and it was lead by the Eastern Bloc...
Here is Agnes Keleti's gold performance from 1956. She is good, but very shakey, wobbly. She was 35 at the time. She is still alive and 100 years old.

(1,474 posts)You trust your body or you risk severe injury. I was well on my way to a pro power lifting career, and could squat over 1000 lbs BUT everything had to perfect. There is no margin for error in things like that. Unless you are putting your ass on the line, people need to STFU.

(8,676 posts)People like Piers Morgan. The athletic phenom he is? He can RUN like hell away from interview questions he dont like. There needs to be a whole lot of Shutting The Fuck Up. As Kelly of Jesus and Santa are white fame, said to Lebron, Shut up and dribble, how about she and her ilk, just shut the fuck up and show us how they can dribble. How about everybody at Fox, OAN, and NewsMax Shut The Fuck Up and dribble. We could be great again.

Ya know, if you're on a team, you have plenty of times when the action slows and you can zone out for a few seconds. Maybe someone can pick up the slack. Can't do that when you're out there alone, and have to be perfect.
And then when you hear they changed the rules because you're "Too Good", watchoo gonna do?

(2,248 posts)Being #6 in women's gymnastics in the US, probably means you are in the top 15 in the world and might be able to compete for a medal in an event or the team competition. So, th elost opportunity for another athlete is the only part sticks out. I remember wathcing the trials and seeing the devastation on the face of #6 -- the first left out athlete.
Athletes know when it is time to walk away. And gymnastics is weird in that it is a pseudo-team sport -- really they compete as individuals but given the limitations on numbers from any given country there is a team aspect. (Kind of like the Australian who is third best at the Australia Olympic trials but had the second best time in the world this year and does not get to compete).

'Simone Biles got the twisties, too: Olympian connects with former gymnasts over the feeling of disconnect in the air
They saw it a little bit in practice. Having a little bit of the twisties, Biles had said Tuesday in Tokyo. They were her teammates. The twisties? Well, whatever they were, they had terrified the iconic gymnasts U.S. colleagues. And they had played a part in forcing the greatest to ever do it to step away from doing it at all, on the biggest stage of all.
I saw a recording of Bart Conner and Nadia Comăneci being interviewed on CNN last night. Bart talked about the twisties, I suddenly understood why she walked, and how good and strong that decision was.

(112 posts)Gymnast Laurie Hernandez, Biles 2016 Olympic teammate, told Olympics.com that the so-called twisties can set in just as a gymnast attempts a high-level skill, when even a slight misstep could carry grave consequences.
The rhythm is off, and your brain will like, stutter step for half a second, and thats enough to throw off the whole skill, Hernandez told Olympics.com. And, so, it happens, and it takes a second to get over that.
What I think is really important here is, you have Simone, who clearly knew something wasnt quite right, and when you are flying and flipping and turning 10, 15 feet above the floor, looking for a landing, you better be in the right headspace or really bad things are going to happen.
