"Three Afghanis were shot today by a military unit."
Response:
"Yawn." "Way to go guys!" "Kill Those Mothers!"
Or how 'bout:
"Three civilians were killed today in Pakistan after a predator drone hit the wrong target. Two of them were children, one a baby."
(Chirp, chirp, chirp...)
"Three Afghanis were urinated on today after being shot and killed by a military unit."
"Oh shit! They pissed on those guys? THAT'S OUTRAGEOUS! String those soldiers up!"
Really?
You see, this would be the problem with our species. We think it's A-OK to kill people, but just so much as "insult their honor and dignity" and I'll be damned if you don't piss some people off.
Of the things that happened to those three guys in a 24-hour period, being peed on was probably not high up there on the list of excruciatingly painful things. Death was.
I'm not saying that I support a peeing policy, but it really sickens me that this is when we say, "that's too far."
You know, I think there are times that show how little hope there is for us. I'm getting that vibe off of this story:

175 children have been killed in Pakistan, but this is when we say enough is enough?

It's the pro-killing, anti-peeing silent majority.

(25,592 posts)The so-called war on terror is designed to be self-perpetuating. There is no winning. Not for us,US, not for the innocent civilians we kill as the enemy.

There are a bunch, which led to my question.

(15,558 posts)If we were a moral people we'd demand the government, OUR government, put an end to it immediately. But we pretend to believe the lies so we can rationalize the killing.

(4,307 posts)Yes, when you think about it, pissing on their corpses is probably the least of the evils we've wrought upon these people.

(62,325 posts)Peeing on those we kill just isn't respectable.
I had a little hope last week when I read that the drone killings had been suspended and a State Department member had said, 'we can't kill our way out of this'. I thought maybe finally, our bloody illegal wars were finally coming to an end. But I read yesterday that the drone murders are continuing.
Thank you for your humanity.

(3,829 posts)It's not like this in much of the world.
Instead, we get outraged about relatively minor or stupid stuff (though peeing on their victims does expose their mindset). One can see it here on DU: http://www.democraticunderground.com/1002102119
Some folks here are fabricating phony outrage, and using diversionary tactics. They really don't care about the victims of our wars.
War is the most racist and evil thing in the world. Nothing's worse than war.

Sounds like our media - it's not the violence, it's the sex, stupid!!
