In the months since the U.S. Capitol assault, Donald Trump has led the GOP efforts to distort and dismiss the realities of the anti-democratic and deadly riot that the former president himself instigated.
In his retelling, Ashli Babbittwho was shot and killed trying to enter the House chamber on Jan. 6wasnt so much a rioter as she was an innocent, wonderful, incredible woman. And, in Trumps mind, some of the police officers who defended the Capitol that day arent the real heroes, calling them liberal pussies who loathe MAGA, and outliers within a broadly pro-Trump law enforcement community.
In private discussions this summer, Trump has told some people close to him that several of these officers strike him as weak and as pussies, according to two sources familiar with the comments and who described them independently. Trump has also maintained that these men seem broke[n] by the events of Jan. 6, and that they do not have the supposed toughness or character of the law enforcement officers who, on the whole nationally, still widely support Trump and his policies.
According to these two people, and another source with knowledge of the matter, the twice-impeached former president has also alleged that these particular police officers are letting themselves be used as pawns by anti-Trump Democrats, like Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), or simply despise Trump and are Democrats themselves.

BY LINCOLN ANTHONY BLADES
Teen Vogue, AUGUST 3, 2017
Do Better is an op-ed column by writer Lincoln Anthony Blades that debunks fallacies regarding the politics of race, culture, and society because if we all knew better, we'd do better.
When I look at President Donald Trump, I see a pot-bellied, 71-year-old man with a doughy frame. But in 1968, when he was a 22-year-old University of Pennsylvania graduate, Trump was a tall, fit athlete who played football, tennis, and golf. His age and clean medical history qualified Trump as a perfect candidate for the draft to serve in the United States Army and fight in the Vietnam War, but he avoided combat after receiving a 1-Y medical deferment, which he has said was due to "bone spurs in his heels." More than half a million American men were stationed in Vietnam by the end of that year, which was the bloodiest 12 months of the conflict. On the day of Trump's graduation from the University of Pennsylvania, 40 Americans were killed in Vietnam, according to The New York Times.
The son of Fred Trump, a wealthy New York real estate developer, Donald Trump did what many other wealthy young men were allowed to do: He dodged the draft. Between 1964 and 1972, a few months before the draft ended, he received five deferments in addition to his "bone spurs" claim, the other four were based on his educational status. He received two deferments while he attended Fordham University from 1964 to 1966, and two more after transferring to the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
As a draft dodger, Trump never knew the horrors of war, but in 1997, he laughed when telling radio host Howard Stern that avoiding sexually transmitted diseases was like his "personal Vietnam." "It is a dangerous world out there. Its scary, like Vietnam. Sort of like the Vietnam era, Trump said to Stern, discussing his sex life. "I feel like a great and very brave soldier.

"I want you to get to the bottom of that," Dunn told members of the committee.

(14,876 posts)Going by what Ive read, Botany, you are a person who loves learning as much as possible. It not only expands awareness, learning expands ones interior world. It helps one understand the importance of using the gift of life to serve others - to build a better world. Please allow me to add, I believe you are a person who uses most every moment wisely, and the thought that others are not so inclined is difficult to accept. Heres something to consider about a former President of the United States:
Trump is a moron fixated by fabric swatches.
Trump, the billion-dollar loser I was his ghostwriter and saw it happen

EXCERPT...
I tend to see my time with him the first part of it, anyway, before things started going bad in a hurry as his King Midas period. I never said this to him; if I had, he probably would have thought I was suggesting he enter the muffler business. But there was a stretch of months when everything he touched turned into a deal. The banks seemed to accept the version of him depicted in his first book, The Art of the Deal, which we now know from his previous ghostwriter, Tony Schwartz, was entirely invented. They believed it over what they saw on his balance sheets or heard coming out of his mouth, and they never said no to his requests for more money. Often they came up with things he could say yes to before he could think of them himself. As a result, a failing real estate developer who had little idea of what he was doing and less interest in doing it once hed held the all-important press conference wound up owning three New Jersey hotel-casinos, the Plaza Hotel, the Eastern Airlines Shuttle and a 281-foot yacht.
A real go-getter, right? But Trumps portfolio did not jibe with what I saw each day which to a surprisingly large extent was him looking at fabric swatches. Indeed, flipping through fabric swatches seemed at times to be his main occupation. Some days he would do it for hours, then take me in what he always called his French military helicopter to Atlantic City where he looked at more fabric swatches or sometimes small samples of wood paneling. It was true that the carpets and drapes at his properties needed to be refreshed frequently, and the seats on the renamed Trump Shuttle required occasional reupholstering. But the main thing about fabric swatches was that they were within his comfort zone whereas, for example, the management of hotels and airlines clearly wasnt. One of his aides once told me that every room at the Plaza could be filled at the rack rate (list price) every night, and the revenue still wouldnt cover the monthly payment of the loan hed taken out to buy the place. In other words, hed made a ridiculous deal. Neither he nor the banks had done the math beforehand. Or perhaps Trump knew it because someone had told him, but didnt want to think about it. The one thing he is above-average at is compartmentalization.

(14,876 posts)Lincoln Anthony Blades observed:
He publicly disrespected Khizr Muazzam Khan and Ghazala Khan, the gold-star Pakistani-American parents of Army captain Humayun Khan, who was killed in combat in 2004 and posthumously awarded a Purple Heart for his bravery. Not only did Trump attack an immigrant family who made a sacrifice for their adopted nation, but he even compared their loss to the "sacrifices" he made while becoming a real estate tycoon. To insult the family of Khan, who died at war at 27 just two years older than Trump was when he received his 4-F classification, permanently disqualifying him from military service by comparing it to his own business ventures is a claim only made equatable in the mind of a man with little recognition of his own internalized cowardice.

(46,700 posts)There was a whole contingency of entitled families who had an excuse for using all the loopholes to protect their sons. And they freely shared it with us. It went something like this: I feel like I can best contribute to this country by concentrating my skills and resources in the political arena. Or they would point out that their management skills would be better used in the private sector.
And we said nothing to dispute them!!! Nothing! Trump is the product of that era. Where does the pussy grabber get the right to call anyone a pussy? The world is changing and he is standing still.

After the press reported details of his trip to the White House bunker during Black Lives Matter protests last spring, former President Donald Trump reportedly screamed at aides to find whoever leaked the story, and claimed he or she should be "executed" and "charged with treason," CNN reports via the new book Frankly, We Did Win This Election: The Inside Story of How Trump Lost.
In the days that followed Trump's trip underground, the ex-president reportedly called a "tense" meeting with top military, law enforcement, and West Wing advisers to lament the press leak.
He then "boiled over about the bunker story as soon as they arrived and shouted at them to smoke out whoever had leaked it. It was the most upset some aides had ever seen the president," writes the book's author and Wall Street Journal reporter Michael Bender. "Whoever did that, they should be charged with treason!" Trump reportedly yelled. "They should be executed!"
Former White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows "repeatedly tried to calm the president," telling his boss, "I'm on it. We're going to find out who did it." Those who heard Trump obsess over Meadows' efforts in the days to come reportedly viewed his outburst "as a sign of a president in panic."
Trump later told Fox News radio he was only down in the bunker to "inspect" it, something he had done "two and a half times" before.
