Tulsa woman Desiree Castaneda was arrested Thursday, two weeks after she became a grandmother at the age of 33. Police say she was charged with child neglect and enabling child sex abuse after her 12-year-old daughter gave birth, People reports. Juan Miranda-Jara, a 24-year-old who admitted being the father, was arrested while the girl was in labor on July 14. "They walked in [to the hospital] just like any other couple would excited to deliver their newborn child," Tulsa Police Officer Danny Bean told FOX23. When police arrived at the hospital, they say Miranda-Jara acted unsure as to why they were there.

He told investigators he had been in a "relationship" with the girl since October. He was charged with first-degree rape of a minor. Police say their investigation revealed that the girl's family members knew Miranda-Jara had been having sex with her and even threw a baby shower for them, KTUL reports. Oklahoma's age of consent is 16. The girl's father is in prison serving a 12-year sentence in an unrelated rape case.

she was 20-21 when her daughter was born. Not that young, but still kind of young these days. Many women are waiting.

40+ years ago, I taught elementary school in South Central Los Angeles (aka Watts).

Answering curious kids, I told them I was 25. A couple of them responded along the line of "Dang, Mr. Delph, you're older than my mother!"

At 25, I shouldn't have been older than any third-grader's mother.

My Grandmother, her daughter (my Tia, Aunt in english), my cousin (about 2 years younger than my mother), my 1st cousin once removed (she is older than me) and her daughter (my 1st cousin twice removed). In all fairness this was a different time. My Aunt was the oldest of 12 children...my mother being the 11th.

After my grandmother died the generations shifted and they took another 5 generation pic with my Aunt as the oldest and my 1st cousin twice removed had a child. None of these women (yes there were all females in these pics) were under 16 and all were legally married...so it can happen...

...but OMG!...a 12 year old?? Geez!

25. This is a statutory rape problem, not just teen pregnancy problem.

When people talk about pregnant 12 year olds, they act like the girl should be on birth control. The real problem is statutory rape by older men. Girls should be protected from being preyed upon by older men.
