J.D. Vance Tells Tucker Carlson The Quiet Part Out Loud: He Wants A Healthy Ruling Class
Controversial right-wing Ohio Senate candidate J.D. Vance bashed Democrats as miserable childless cat ladies who dont serve a healthy ruling class, he told Tucker Carlson on Fox News.
The Republican candidate a venture capitalist and author of Hillbilly Elegy attacked Democrats who dont have children because, he claimed, they dont have a stake in the system, he explained to Carlson on Thursday night. Vance, 36, who has been married seven years, has two children.
If we want a healthy ruling class in this country, we should invest more, we should vote more, we should support more people who actually have kids, Vance told Carlson.
He singled out Vice President Kamala Harris (who has two stepchildren), Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg.
Both Ocasio-Cortez, 31, and Buttigieg, 39, rather famously have dogs, not cats, and Buttigieg isnt a lady. Buttigiegs husband, Chasten Buttigieg, on Monday slammed Vances earlier comments attacking the childless left for being heartless and pointed out that the men are currently seeking to adopt a child.

(17,911 posts)Invest in what? Neo-fascist rants? And the support people with kids bit. Are you kidding? More could be done, but have you ever look at the US tax code, Jim Bob? Or is this an oblique assault on Roe? More people voting? Oh, I get it. More of the RIGHT people voting. Either that or he's forgotten his Frank Luntz. A ruling class? Really? Really? Makes you wonder what they're teaching hillbillies like Vance at Yale. Then again, maybe it's his lack of genetic diversity talking.

(32,015 posts)What Vance is saying has a producerist viewpoint, that families should be net "givers" (self sufficient, with good paying jobs) rather than takers (reliant on welfare or government services). Basically a shallow message that sounds good in theory but collapses in practice - who will do the "lower" jobs in a world where everyone were high status in the "all makers" Utopia?

(70,074 posts)we dont need to have kids to care about kids.
most on the left think there is no such thing as someone else's kids.
the righties are the ones who cry about property taxes when they dont have kids, or they send their kids to private schools or even when their own kids are grown.
i literally have heard wingnuts propose that only people w kids in school pay the school portion of the property tax.

(8,910 posts)San Diego County has plenty of RWNJ's and of course some are friends.
In the city of San Diego, it cost around $10K per student per year to educate them.
Every time a school measure or something similar appears on the ballot, I keep hearing from the RW's, "Why should I vote for this, I don't have any kids in school.", or "Why should I vote for this, my kids already graduated."
I always ask them, "Did you attend public schools?". Over 90% will say yes.
I then ask, "Who do you think paid for your education? Do you think your parents could afford $10K per child per year?"
It is time for them to pony up, if not for their kids, at least for their own education.
Everyone owes into the system.
My parents had 8 children. There is no way they would have been able to pay $80K per year.
Public school throughout for myself, included grants for college.
So yes, I understand my responsibility in exchange for what I received from the public school system.
Along with my property taxes, I donate scientific calculators every year towards students that display S.T.E.M capabilities.
Remember public school buses? Now only the students that use them pay for them.
When my daughter was going through her K-12 years, it cost $600 per semester, probably more now.
You think the lower income areas are able to afford this?
Another publicly paid & provided service that's been PROFITIZED.

(43,294 posts)Perhaps you are referring to Rethug primary polls.
Here is the only general election one I can find.
https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/the-senate-primary-races-were-watching-so-far/
sarah: Yeah, Id thought the same thing, Alex. But according to the one public-facing poll of the race so far, from the pollster Public Policy Polling, conducted back in March, 71 percent of respondents werent sure what their opinion of Vance was! Whereas opinion was much more baked in for Ryan (just 46 percent were not sure), Timken (64 percent not sure) and Mandel (39 percent not sure).

Every poll listed in this entire post was before Vance officially jumped in to the race on July 1st, 2021.

(736 posts)Now politicians have to be religious, straight AND have kids? JD Vance is a world class asshole! How about saving the planet by not reproducing like rabbits? How about love who the hell you want to love and stay out of my bedroom anyway! How about religion and faith are a private thing that nobody should have to answer for when they run for office?!? How about a freaking lie detector test for the so called "born agains" like George W. Bush and DJT?

(1,668 posts)1) Healthy? By what definition. From a mental health perspective I'm really starting to question the mental health of that ruling class. I don't think supporting the causes the right likes means you are mentally ill, but It sure seems like it attracts large numbers of people who are closer to or exceeding clinical levels for sociopathy.
2) You'd think the right would prefer the left to be childless.

Childless people prefer not to bring children into a world of GQP hell and hate. His Stake in a future are his children????More like a stake in their hearts for his fucking greed and willingness to destroy the very planet his children depend on to carry on the wealth. (15,536 posts)This self-professed "hillbilly" (I thought they didn't like that term) reinforces my belief that even ivy league schools can turn out stupid people.
I read his book and only because I'm from Ohio and I wanted to see what he was all about. At the end I had a WTF attitude toward the premise of his book and his politics. None of it made any sense.
I hope Ohioans don't put him in office, but the way Ohio is going I'm not confident they won't.
