I am not a fan of the Just Us Democrats and Nina Turner. I am glad that the party is going to take a strong stand when the Just Us Democrats target a real democrat. We are seeing this conflict in the OH 11

House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn (D-S.C.), along with Democratic Reps. Joyce Beatty (Ohio), Gregory Meeks (N.Y.) and Bennie Thompson (Miss.), are headlining a get-out-the-vote event for Brown this weekend as well. ....
The goal of Browns establishment allies, however, is not merely to stop Turner. By defeating Turner, a staunch ally of Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and critic of Democratic Party leaders, these moderates also hope to send a shot across the bow to the nascent activist left ― a signal that they are ramping up efforts to limit the lefts influence in Congress.
Establishment Dems have largely slept through a lot of primary challenges or a lot of these races where the Justice Democrats have played, said a moderate Democratic strategist uninvolved in the race, who asked for anonymity for professional reasons. Theyre not going to do that anymore. ....
But as her critics have grown more willing to remind voters, she is also someone who publicly entertained an offer to serve as Green Party presidential nominee Jill Steins running mate in 2016, and who, in 2020, likened the choice between President Donald Trump and Biden to deciding between a bowl of shit and half of that bowl.....
People who vote in the Democratic primary tend to be voters who are proud to be Democrats and prioritize Democratic unity, said Cass, a partner at Slingshot Strategies in Manhattan. If your words can be twisted and painted in a way that makes it look like you are antithetical to that ― which Nina Turner is not, but people she has pissed off perceive that to be the case ― I dont think Democratic voters like that.
I get the Just US Democrats emails and you can see that the Just Us Democrats are desperate to raise more money to stick it to corporate democrats. I find these emails to be very funny

Turner is supported by Sanders; Sen. Ed Markey of Massachusetts; progressive members of Congress known as The Squad; and the local chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America.
Brown is backed by former presidential nominee Hillary Clinton; Rep. Jim Clyburn of South Carolina, the House Majority Whip; Rep. Joyce Beatty from Ohio who chairs the Congressional Black Caucus; and a number of Jewish and pro-Israel groups including the Jewish Democratic Council of America, Democratic Majority for Israel, Pro Israel America and NORPAC.
Pro-Israel support for Brown
The 11th District has the largest population of Jewish residents in the state, which is estimated at 5% of the electorate. While both of the leading candidates are Black and domestic politics has largely dominated the race, their stances on Israel have become a contentious issue as the Brown campaign and groups supporting her try to mobilize the Jewish community.
This could be good news for Shontel

According to these sad but funny emails, I need to give these people money to run against good real Democratic candidates.

This race was once thought to be a slam dunk for Turner, given that she began with a commanding 35 point lead and strong name recognition. Turner cemented herself as a progressive, anti-establishment firebrand over the past several years as a fierce backer of Senator Bernie Sanders' 2016 and 2020 Presidential runs. She refused to back Hillary Clinton's presidential bid once she became the Democratic nominee, and last year compared voting for Joe Biden to eating a bowl of excrement.....
While progressives have had some success during Donald Trump's tenure, the political winds are now blowing in a different direction. A recent AP poll found that 92 percent of Democrats approve of Biden's work as President. That means it is going to be difficult for progressives who brand themselves as anti-Biden or anti-establishment to win.
This point was implicitly acknowledged by the pro-Sanders group Our Revolution when their executive director rebranded them as "pragmatic progressives" who were willing to work with President Biden's more moderate agenda rather than flatly oppose it. You can see this also in other recent progressive losses in high profile races, such as the runoff election in Louisiana's 2nd district, or the Virginia gubernatorial and New York mayoral primaries. Centrist candidate Eric Adams, now the Democratic nominee for mayor of New York, went as far as to call himself the "Biden of Brooklyn."....
While the race between Brown and Turner might not be the biggest of the year, it is nevertheless important because it is emblematic of how internal Democratic dynamics will play out during the Biden years. Turner showed us that even a well funded anti-establishment candidate with name recognition and endorsements can lose in this Democratic environment.

(9,072 posts)Very strange. I'm a big Biden fan and often note it, so this is even stranger. Didn't read it though. I don't read when people spam at me.
I only spent $80 at Costco yesterday. Pretty pumped. It was my once a month shop for staples, and I thought it was going to cost a small fortune. But fortunately, nearly everything I needed was on sale. A big thing of coffee was only $7.50.
So I was pretty pleased with that. $5 Fridays at Safeway today, so I'm going to roll on into that after gym. They have pork ribs on sale, and I discovered a keto BBQ sauce recipe I really want to try. We finally, finally just replaced the propane tank for our grill, so I figured give that a whirl.
Have a lovely weekend!

Turnout in Cuyahoga County is 11%
But turnout is a lot higher in Shontel Brown's strongholds (where local officials have endorsed her):
Beachwood: 23%
Shaker Heights: 19%
Cleveland Heights: 18%
Cleveland's Ward 1: 15%
5 hours to go, but I'd rather be Brown #OH11

(145,130 posts)This race has some interesting implications. AOC and the squad demanded that OH11 voters send Nina Turner to bolster their power to block President Biden's plans
Link to tweet
Shontel's victory over Nina and the Squad is important in that it gives Joe Biden more flexibility
Link to tweet
Brown prevailed by embracing President Biden and celebrating his brand of incrementalism. This is about making progress, and sometimes that takes compromise, she said during her victory speech in a Cleveland suburb. Because when you demand all or nothing, usually you end up with nothing.....
Biden has to be attentive to the left, given Democrats slim House majority. But Tuesdays results suggest he doesnt need to contort himself to placate the partys progressive wing as hes doing with the extension of the eviction moratorium as much as they demand or he has often deemed necessary.....
Fear was another motivation for CBC leaders. They privately worried a Turner victory would embolden additional radicals to launch primary challenges against incumbent Black lawmakers in 2022. What happened to Lacy Clay in Missouri remains top of mind. The 10-term congressman, whose father co-founded the CBC, was defeated in a primary last summer by activist Cori Bush, who had the support of Sanders and the Democratic Socialists of America.
And that may be the real significance of the Ohio results. They show the leader of the Democratic Party is not Sanders or AOC. Its Biden. And he should start acting like it. At least he can count on Shontel Browns vote.

(145,130 posts)I have been following the Justice Democrats and its predecessor for a while including the "brand new congress group" and other groups created by Cenk, Kyle Kulinksi and their ilk. I am on the Justice Democrat email list and I have even listened once or twice to the Justice Democrat podcast which is amusingly called "Just Us" democrats. The Justice Democrats emails are fun to laugh at and I love the hatred this group shows to the Democratic Party, establishment Democrats and best of all corporate democrats. The posts attacking the DCCC for raising money to elect real Democrats are really amusing.
There are a large number posters on twitter who have issues with the concept of the Justice Democrat group wanting to take over the Democratic party and remake into their image.

Tthe concept that the Justice Democrats want to take over the Democratic Party is wrong

Again the above posts are consistent with the hatred of the Democratic Party that I see on the almost daily emails that I get from the Justice Democrats.
