Reagan's treason was just as bad in another way. While running for President he secretly negotiated with leaders in Iran to keep the American hostages un-rescued until after the election was over. The American people were so angry and frustrated with Jimmy Carter (plus the tanking economy didn't help) that too many voters turned away and went for Reagan.

In case anybody doesn't know this: it is illegal for any American to deal with a foreign power in the name of the U.S. government unless they've been appointed by the President as a diplomat or government agent. Reagan broke the law and committed treason, and he was rewarded with 2 terms as President.
