Well over a million COVID cases in Ohio, 20k deaths, exponential growth again. 500 deaths in the US yesterday.
I will be wearing a mask to protect those of you who are not vaccinated. I will be wearing a mask to protect those of you who will not wear a mask. I have NO NEED for you to wear a mask to protect me. I have a .008% chance of getting ill from the coronavirus, as I have been vaccinated.
It is raining death. I will try to hold up the umbrella for those of you who refuse to get your own umbrella. My arm is tired, and I am mad at you.

(15,067 posts)Our county numbers are going up now. People aren't wearing masks at all.
Just found out the vaccination in our county is 46%!!! Lots of anti-vaxxers here (not just this vaccine, but all of them).
We are actually thinking about moving elsewhere. Between the willful ignorance and the summer wildfires/smoke, we're not so happy any more.
And welcome to DU!

(5,334 posts)complacency rules.
Vaccination rates here are abysmal, still have health care workers and people in retirement homes not fully vaccinated.
Delta is spreading, nothing will stop it.
Mask wearing is mandatory. Demonstrating in the streets for 'muh freedums' is not mandatory, but highly popular.
Getting arrested and fined does nothing to slow the spread.
I'm wearing a mask. Double AZ vaccinated, but not taking any risks. Wear a mask, wash hands, use sanitiser, don't go out often, maybe once a week for food. Well known drill.
But it's not working, not enough people being careful. Delta keeps spreading.
The human race. Hopeless bunch!

(51,567 posts)I think I saw demonstrations in Japan but it was pro-masks and was in favor of canceling the Olympics due to the super high Covid numbers there. So far Japan looks like it is one of the few countries where residents have common sense when it comes to spreading germs and diseases.

(346 posts)sounds the same. I think it is very much cultural. There is little or no sense of responsibility for others, just "my own freedumbs" is all that matters. I was amazed yesterday when a friend was telling me that a person from a respiratory therapy business came to her house to deliver equipment and treat her spouse who has COPD (emphysema). The therapist just happened to mention that she wasn't vaccinated against COVID, just because...(?) Her spouse is too ill to leave home, and they thought they were pretty safe. My friend went totally ballistic. Told the therapist not to come back, and if she needed to deliver any supplies, just leave them on the porch because she wasn't coming back into the house.
I really find it hard to believe the level of self-centered callousness that is common around here. One would think that a company that is treating people with all sorts of respiratory illnesses, FOR DOG'S SAKE, would require its employees to be vaccinated, or that the individuals would take on that responsibility. But, NO! Freedumbs! Sounds to me like "freedumbs" is just an excuse to shirk responsibility.

(5,334 posts)Humans seem to have a built in feeling of permanence as far at their own continued existence is concerned.
Look of surprise when they find out it is not.
Add a deep seated dislike of being inconvenienced by what others say and think.
As caring for others, not so much. They can be inconvenienced, they can die, some egos say 'do not care!'
