(23,061 posts)My old boss used to have a life sized poster of her on the back side of his door, lol. We'd listen to her music sometimes, but not loud since it was at work.
I am so glad she was finally able to ditch that ass Ike and shine on her own.

(52,152 posts)and amazingly enough this song was a flop (one of Phil Specter's very few).
It was a cover of CCR's version two years after...But it was #4 on the charts.
I didn't like it at first because I liked CCR's, but it got plenty of air time.

"Proud Mary" is a rock n roll song written by John Fogerty and first recorded by his band Creedence Clearwater Revival. It was released by Fantasy Records as a single from the band's second studio album, Bayou Country, which was issued by the same record company and is generally considered to have been released in early January 1969,[1][2] although one source[3] states that it came out just before Christmas 1968. The song became a major hit in the United States, peaking at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 in March 1969, the first of five singles to peak at No. 2 for the group.[7][8]
A cover version by Ike and Tina Turner, released two years later in 1971, did nearly as well, reaching No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 and winning a Grammy Award.

(52,152 posts)glad it was a hit, I couldn't figure out how musical taste was so bad. I was barely around then so I had no first hand knowledge.

(16,850 posts)While it's considered a classic now, at the time it was largely considered a flop and it was Tina's first real professional push back on Ike.
