sans reference to the internet..

When asked by acquaintances and friends the question: Why do these people believe what he says?

I called it the Jim Jones Cult factor. There is no rational explanation. only an analysis that describes the phenomenon involved.

The short cut explanation boils right down to the Cult Factor.

I'll leave the clinical psycho-analysis to the professionals who do and will use this as grist for the mill factories.

But I really don't think it's all that complicated, like Speier says... similar to the Merchant of Deceit: the Jim Jones Cult.

B/c they were taking members of the cult who wanted to leave with them.

Which also left Rep. Leo Ryan dead.

Jim Jones is responsible for his death.

TFG would have walked away afterwards and called his followers losers.

I recognize this response is in very poor taste. The Jonestown followers and their surviving family members don't need to denigrated any further.

it's the stone-cold truth. The only other difference is that MF45 would have charged them for the kool-aid, then called them "suckers and losers".

The fanaticism I see among the MAGAts is nothing less than any other dangerous cult.
