NEW YORK (AP) Employers are losing patience with unvaccinated workers.
For months, most employers relied on information campaigns, bonuses and other incentives to encourage their workforces to get the COVID-19 shot. Now, a growing number are imposing rules to make it more onerous for employees to refuse, from outright mandates to requiring the unvaccinated to undergo regular testing.
Among employers getting tougher are the federal government, the state governments of California and New York, tech giants Google and Facebook, the Walt Disney Co. and the NFL. Some hospitals, universities, restaurants, bars and other entertainment venues have also started requiring vaccines.
But the new measures are unlikely to affect many of the millions of unvaccinated Americans.

(3,399 posts)get vaccinated or lose benefits. Heard this idea being discussed at church over the weekend! Not quite sure how I feel about it. I'm against drug testing recipients, but this is different.

Yes, everyone should get vaccinated, but you seem to be targeting a group of financially vulnerable people here with this idea and it doesnt sit too well with me.

(64,877 posts)At one point it says mandates probably won't influence non-vaxxed workers.
Then it gives an example of a company who had 1% leave rather than get vaxxed.
It's giving examples of companies doing so, but then says companies are reluctant to do it.
When this vax gets full FDA approval & companies say "get the shot or get lost", the resisters will get in line and the politically obstinate will rethink whether their politics is worth losing their livelihood.
The notion that they'll chase workers away by mandating the shot is refuted by the very examples in the article. Besides, UE is still over 5&1/2 percent. If companies are paying well, they won't have any issue backfilling those defections.
If companies are having a hard time filling positions because the pay is crummy, mandating the vax really doesn't change their real issue.

(5,447 posts)I had Aetna Health Ins and, of course, the premiums were going sky high. So I decided to shop around. Found out the first question they asked me on the phone was "are you diabetic?" Answer was yes and they basically said not interested in bringing you on board. So what would be the difference if, now, the insurance companies quit taking on the unvaxxed coming in as new clients? They did it to me.
