sunglasses accidently dropped into orangutan enclosure at zoo

In footage posted to the site by a woman named Lola Testu, the great ape can be seen sidling over to the shades moments after they were dropped into her living quarters.

"I accidentally dropped my sunglasses in the orangutan enclosure at a zoo in Indonesia," a caption introducing the clip explains.

The woman filming the video from above the enclosure initially fears that the animal might have other ideas for her sunglasses.

"Oh no, don't eat it," she is heard saying.

But the orangutan knows better than that.

Within seconds she has opened both arms of the shades and is preparing to put them on.

Always fascinated me how they got all the way to Asia, all the other big primates are in Africa only.

She looks great in those shades.

Did she toss them back in the end and get a treat? Looked like it.

She opens her glasses as I sometimes do when my hands are full. Mouth for one stem and a finger for the other.

This was wonderful to watch.

It should read "Human drops sunglasses; orangutan finds glasses". The orangutan did not steal anything.

looks through them, and then experiments with turning them another way, apparently trying to figure out what they're suppposed to do. Unimpressed with the view through thrm, she tosses them back.

I think she was doing a trade, you see a bunch of some vegetables thrown to her after she flings the glasses out. Keepers can often get the great apes to do a trade for something found in the exhibit in exchange for a prized food item. Sometimes they will even bring things they find in exhibits to their night quarters and offer them to keepers in an offer to barter. They are WAY smarter than most people realize.

I think most animals are. We are arrogant in our assumptions about the lack of animal intelligence.
