New York Democrats prepare to impeach Cuomo

Politico

ALBANY, N.Y. — The Democratic majority in the New York Assembly is preparing to impeach Gov. Andrew Cuomo if he does not resign, a rapid deterioration of their relationship following Tuesday’s devastating allegation that he had sexually harassed 11 women.

That outcome become clear after an emergency meeting of legislators on Tuesday afternoon, hours after state Attorney General Tish James issued a damning report chronicling multiple instances of sexual harassment by the governor. The state Assembly's Judiciary Committee has been looking into impeachment since March.

“After our conference this afternoon to discuss the Attorney General's report concerning sexual harassment allegations against Governor Cuomo, it is abundantly clear to me that the Governor has lost the confidence of the Assembly Democratic majority and that he can no longer remain in office,” Speaker Carl Heastie said in a statement. “Once we receive all relevant documents and evidence from the Attorney General, we will move expeditiously and look to conclude our impeachment investigation as quickly as possible.”

“A lot of people are ready,” said Assemblymember Linda Rosenthal (D-Manhattan). “The process is going to wind down and then, I believe, you’ll see the Assembly voting on articles of impeachment.”

The Judiciary Committee has a preplanned meeting on Monday to discuss the next steps in its impeachment investigation.

Been here all my life (60 years), have you?

I know the history of this state, and thuglican governors have fucked this state up for many years, only for Dems to have to come rushing in to save this place. Ronnie Raygun is responsible for starting the homeless crisis because he wanted to save monies and dump homeless, mentally ill and vets out into the streets, yet Dems/Newsome are blamed for it years down the line. The hell. Damn, I wish Dems knew HOW to speak up and mention this everytime they get blamed exclusively for the homeless problems here in California. Gray Davis was recalled, and Ahnold was voted in then proceeded to fuck up this state up. Many of my friends lost jobs, houses and their kids had to drop out of college because of him, plus he wouldn't raise the minimum wage as most thuglicans won't. He was also sexing women all over--it was an open secret. His wife and the maid got pregnant by him and had children at the same time. Dems knew about it, but of course they said basically said nothing about his sexual picadillo's, and there were MANY 🙄

And yes Newsom has made some mistakes, but this recall is nothing but a hit job which was generated by the GQP right after Newsom got into office. Governor Ron DeathSentence is murdering people actively with his NO mask mandate, and he wants to take monies out of Florida and guard the border, and he's running for Governor while he's also playing with people's lives, and although that state is spiking out of control with covid-19, he isn't close to being told to leave the Governors office by his GQP party.

God, what is up with some of folks 😑

But it seems his departure is needed in order for the Democratic Party to become the Party of Purity, Goodness and Virtue

If he did half of the things he's accused of (and there there seems to be a strong case, including witnesses to some of the alleged acts), he's finished. Whether he resigns or not, he is done, over, finis, stick a fork in him. If he resigns, it'll be less damaging to the party and easier to move on from than if he makes a big, ugly spectacle of himself by continuing to insist on his innocence until they have to drag him out the door kicking nd screaming.

I am NOT bashing him, just acknowledging the reality of this situation. I support Democrats, and in this case, I'm supporting all the Democrats from the President on down who are saying he should resign. Yes, I know Republicans get away with this crap all the time, but that doesn't make it okay for a Democrat to do it, and we should not look the other way just because they do.

... and I hope he's listening to the good advice. If he doesn't resign soon, he's hurting everyone including his own party and own family.
