(3,493 posts)if the diehards are still capable of getting to the polls and pulling the lever, they'll still vote Republican. The alternative (a Democrat) would still be worse in their mind.
What I think is pushing some across the aisle to change their tune is the fact that independent voters are seeing how out of wack their side has become. Those folks probably would have a hard time supporting a party that is full of crazies and crack pots. Heck, they might even be afraid of that prospect and actually be motivated to vote to prevent that from happening.

(19,021 posts)People who lose loved ones to Covid are looking for someone to blame, and they are angry and it's obvious who lied to them.
I think the GOP has done research into this and had their elections stats guys looking at likely voter models and crunching numbers. Killing their own voters not only costs them that voter, but will convince other voters in their family to not vote GOP anymore. No other reason would make them change, they don't care who dies, but this had to have been explained that it's going to crush them in elections.

(101,295 posts)that shows how few under-65 Republicans have been vaccinated - at 85% for over-65s, that's a substantial amount of the Republican 54% total. It'd be interesting to see the Republicans split by age, but I can't find that at the KFF site.
