Associated Press: A San Francisco hospital appears to be the first in the nation to offer people who got the single-shot Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine a follow-up dose for added protection, likely to help ward off the delta variant.

(25,816 posts)4. According to the few things I've seen where someone bothers
to look at those who got the J&J shot, it's apparently just as effective as the other two.
And yeah, is the CDC recommending this? Or are people just trying to cast doubts on J&J?

(44,972 posts)6. Pfizer and Moderna were 94-95% effective during clinical trials.
J&J was 67%. And that's before delta. What data shows it was as effective as the other two?

(25,816 posts)9. Here's one thing I found.
In the J&J trial, the placebo group had 16 hospitalizations and seven deaths from COVID-19, whereas the vaccine group had none, which means the vaccine provided 100 percent efficacy against hospitalizations and deaths.
I don't feel like do an exhaustive search, but I seem to recall that even though some initial results made the J&J shot seem less effective, the immunity conferred by it tended to grow even after the initial 14 days needed to have full immunity.
Somehow, I think if the J&J shot were significantly less effective, that would have become glaringly obvious by now.

but the end result is the same immune response.
