https://www.wmcactionnews5.com/2021/08/04/730-students-now-quarantined-marion-school-district/MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - Two days into the second week of the new school year, Marion School District has more than 700 students in quarantine because of COVID-19, up nearly 300 since Tuesday.
As of Wednesday morning, Superintendent Dr. Glen Fenter said there were 730 students quarantined with positive cases in 34 students and nine faculty and staff.
Fenter says about a third of those cases are among elementary students who are not yet eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine.

What in the ever loving hell are those people thinking, cramming kids into classrooms during delta surge???
How many will have to suffer & die?

(16,911 posts)With the IDIOTS that makes these decisions about our schools. Wouldn't surprise me, that the NEXT thing they do is refuse to make people quarantine!

(90,762 posts)Why else encourage people to behave in a manner that can and will kill many of them? Why else tell your listeners, your viewers, and your voters that it is all just a political ploy?
Convince them it's all a hoax or a deep state plot to control them, then sit back and watch them, jubilant in their defiance, declare their rejection of science is meant to preserve freedom from the evil socialists and the traitorous Dr. Fauci, as they race toward sickness and death.
They are so delusional in their beliefs that they spurn safety measures and medicine that not only protects them, but helps to protect their children as well.
Many of them will die and the people they consider their leaders will continue to encourage them to do so - with their mixed messaging and denial, their attacks on science and government, their in-your-face mockery of masks and vaccines, and their too little to late words.
How is that not a culling? How is that not intentional?
And, obviously, they - their so-called leaders - are hoping their followers take a few of us with them.
I'm probably overreacting.
I'm just so incredibly saddened by it all.
Besides, it's not like the GOP would deliberately cause harm to people, right? Right? (Yeah, that part was sarcasm)

(82,849 posts)Gov. Hutchinson feels just terrible about all your sickness and suffering. He's real sorry about signing that bill into law that kept you from taking reasonable, common-sense, CHEAP, and effective countermeasures to guard against being infected by this virus. Hopefully you recover quickly and don't suffer any long-term consequences. Rest assured that if any of you die, wheezing away your lives surrounded by machines and strangers, that Gov. Hutchinson will offer his most fervent prayers and heartfelt thoughts on your behalf.
Luckily for the rest of you, he can't run for re-election in 2022 due to term limits. Perhaps unluckily, his successor may be even worse.

(205,237 posts)I'm guessing that schools here in New York will be opening in about 5 weeks, and I can't imagine the scrambling that's taking place even now to prepare for another year with Covid! What do they expect?? When there were outbreaks here, there were shutdowns - and it sounds like they need to do that for these poor kids to protect them from their poor planning to protect them from the virus, though it sounds like it's already spread - poor kids!

(57,073 posts)Not sure where this district is in the state, but it's August in the South. Bound to be hot!
I'll bet they are scrambling! I believe most in education are there because they want to help students to self-actualize.
That would really be nearly impossible if on a ventilator, or struggling with long-haul.
Not sure, but I'm guessing this qpuke state made mandatory in-person learning a law as well.
Gawd, I detest them. And I really empathize with the poor students, educators, & sane parents who want their kids to live & be healthy.

(205,237 posts)And unless their parents are totally out of touch, they must be a wreck. If this was my kid, I'd have refused to send them into that super spreader event. As for teachers, it must be a nightmare - don't they have a union?
And like I said before, if I was still at camp like I was as a kid, this week we'd only be starting our second summer session. And the heat wasn't much of a concern back then, between the woods and the lake, I wore a jacket most days.

As for a union, not sure if it exists there but, even if it does, it's likely weak.
Ah, your summer camp sounds lovely!

(205,237 posts)It's not like this virus snuck up on us, we've been dealing with it for well over a year. And it hasn't been a secret that not only is it getting worse, but it's affecting kids now - thanks to the positions they're put in, like sending them to school in the summer heat with no plans on how to keep them safe and no precautions in place.
And my camp was really lovely, I went to a girls' camp on Lake Champlain in Vermont for 6 years growing up. The main activities were riding and water sports, but there were another dozen activities, too. I'm still friends with the group of friends I went to camp with - though now we're in different states. We got back together for the last several years in the summer in Vermont - except for last year and this year doesn't look promising, either. *sigh*

(57,073 posts)This pandemic is like watching a very poorly scripted horror movie.
That is really nice you campers have kept in touch & get together when able.

(205,237 posts)They'd figure that no one in charge of the health and well being of constituents in a state would be that clueless to the reality of what's happening to those people. Elected officials have expert advisors for a reason - a good example is what Dr. Fauci has been doing for 7 presidents! And only stupid and obstinate people think they know better - to their (and their constituents') peril.
And one of my best friends from camp grew up there - her parents owned and ran the camp from 1951-2006! But they passed away within 3 weeks of each other in 2015, so that was the last time we gathered at camp.
