This guy is your prototypical republican pig. Like you said, "I got mine, fuck you", republican asshole.
I wish him nothing but the worst. But his taxpayer's funded healthcare will make sure he gets nothing but the best.

(5,722 posts)Before this bout with Covid-19, Byrd was best known for sexual misconduct allegations made against him in 2018 by women who were under his care when the lawmaker was a high school basketball coach in the late 1980s.
Byrd previously said he does "not condone sexually inappropriate behavior" and questioned the motive of accusers.
"Conduct over 30 years ago is difficult, at best, to recall, but as a Christian, I have said and I will repeat that if I hurt or emotionally upset any of my students I am truly sorry and apologize," Byrd said in a 2018 statement.
Despite calls from fellow Republicans to step down, he won re-election in 2018 by a three-to-one margin and faced no opposition this past November.

(5,722 posts)but this creep looks like what came out after Jason Miller and 8chan owner Jim Watkins climbed into a telepod together. So it should be no surprise whatsoever that he did what he did, and that he gave such an "apology."

Now there is a big clue he is full of shit. Hiding behind your religion.
As another thought Christians are to repent and sin no more. Repenting is not apologizing. Repenting includes admitting your sin.
As for getting the healthcare while voting not expand Medicaid that is just run-of-the-mill conservative Republicanism.

(10,156 posts)They have all the healthcare they will ever want.
They keep our healthcare system a huge for profit endeavor and this ensures they have all the healthcare they will ever want. It also ensures that, because of the big price tag, only the filthy rich will have all they want. Healthcare wont be used up by the middle or the poor's. The middle will have to go into debt to get all the healthcare they want and the poor's well....they die.
This also creates a full blown distrust of the healthcare system. This keeps alot of the middle and poor from even wanting to use the healthcare system. Who trusts their life to a system designed to make a profit for someone? Wouldn't you trust a system designed to save lives and stop suffering more than a for profit system? You can only serve one master. Trying to ensure a profit while claiming you're in it to help people just is not believeable.
This is why Trump's and the GOP's lies about the dangers of vaccination whispered into the ears of stupid voters ensures the continued spread of a pandemic and anti-vaxxer nonsense.
Representative Byrd is just playing the same old game of all for the rich, and the rich all for themselves.

(14,563 posts)it is about the craven hysteria of half the country to vote R relentlessly.
This people are now completely overt about things, they are not trying to pretty it up with poll tested talking points. It is nonstop competition to see who can be the most outlandish, while voting time after time after time against the (actual) best interests of their constituents.
We care.
But, 1/3 of the country loves these scumbags and another 1/3 buy into their bullshit enough to not bother to show up to vote.

(35,658 posts)I hope someone from TN steps up and answers this, but it's a good question so I checked it out. TN's history with medical care and Medicaid appears to be a sordid mess of wanting a work requirement, hanging around waiting for trump to do something (!), and other bureaucratic snafus. You can read the history here:
https://www.healthinsurance.org/medicaid/tennessee/
However, it appears nothing has changed since they voted it down in 2013:
Who is eligible for Tennessee Medicaid?
Because Tennessee has not yet expanded Medicaid under the ACA, eligibility guidelines are unchanged from 2013, and non-disabled, non-pregnant adults without dependent children are ineligible for Medicaid, regardless of their income.
Byrd didn't get voted in until after 2013 (2014, I think), so you can't blame him for the original vote but if you look at the long history at the link above, you can see he had many opportunities to vote for versions of it.
This person and the state disgusts me.
