Is it possible DeSantis is a madman?

Depraved indifference to the 10's of thousands that his policies are sending to the ER? What about the front line medical workers having to deal with this.....again. His response? Blame Biden and the Border. But also, let me also meddle in US foreign policy while I'm at it....

Is this what a normal person would do? Serious question.

They're not just insulting terms. Altemeyer's "The Authoritarians" analyzes both those who elect them and nightmare leaders, called "double highs" and "social dominators" in his studies. Really scary people who who can be depended on to use power to hurt others.

I don’t think it’s an equal relationship either.
He has no long term staff. I read a piece probably a year ago about how no one stays around. Very adversarial ala Trump or Cuomo from what I’ve read. Staff either leaves or he catsts them out simply as a matter of keeping others on edge.

The basic point here is that his inner circle is basically him and maybe his wife. He is shadowing Trump right now for the 2024 run. At this point he could pull back a bit but the GOP way right now is to be the outrage of the day primarily by “Owning the Libs”

They also occasionally have the temerity to use facts, point out incorrect actions or statements, disagree, etc. Can't have any of that if you're Il Duce with training wheels.

I prefer to think of him as a yappy, annoying chihuahua from hell who has gotten too big for his bitches. He's really dangerous, though, and insanely irritating. Just looking at him makes me want to throw something. I'd rather have a beer with Chris Christie, who could possibly be Ron's long lost sibling.

He's decided that the freedumb agenda and "owning the libs" and being categorically oppositional to anything connected to Biden -- even the CDC now that Biden is POTUS -- will help his personal political ambitions more than all these deaths will hurt it.

Look at all of the national media exposure he's getting. And in that exposure he's posturing against Dems/Biden. That's good for his political brand. The next race he is facing (for whatever office) is a GrOPer primary. He will worry about swing voters later. First things first, get campaign donations from all over, and cultivate the rabid base to win the primary.

All those deaths are just a statistic. Easily overlooked by the people by seeking to manipulate.

As others have said, he's a sociopath.

I'm pretty sure he knows he's spouting bullshit a lot of time, and doesn't buy what he himself is selling. But if his words and actions further his ambitions he doesn't give a crap who gets hurt or killed.

But he’s overplayed his hand pandering to his base. Which every day gets smaller as his supporters die.

Your not seeing it now but Floridians of all parties are scared. And pissed.

We are filling our ICUs and he is totally ignoring it.

You can talk about illegals and socialism in normal times. But when your state is going thru a crisis like no one has seen and you ignore it that does not play well. Yeah, with the base it is cool. But not the general population.

Not saying we will beat him in 22 but we have a real shot.
