https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mack_Robinson_(athlete)

He set a new Olympic record in the 200 even though he finished 2nd.

Jackie Robertson was his younger brother.

ETA: It is a little shocking to think that Jesse was a smoker and died of lung cancer.

Last night PBS had a documentary about Jesse Owens. After winning all of these gold medals for the U.S. in Nazi Germany in 1936, when Jesse Owens returned to the U.S. there were all of these New Yorkers cheering for him at the dock when his ship arrived back here. That same night he and his wife tried to find a hotel in New York City where they could get a room. They were turned down repeatedly because the hotels did not take black guests. Finally, a hotel somewhere in the city agreed to let them rent a room but they had to agree to enter and exit the hotel from the back entrance where they could not been seen. This country is SHAMEFUL and has a SHAMEFUL history.
