(42,293 posts)Despite its artsy, hippie vibe, there are a lot of conservatives in the area. Idiot Cawthorn is the congress critter there.

(14,176 posts)the counting and recounting and recounting of the recounting and recounting of the recounting of the recounting.
And then if a recall is available, you choose that option because it's basically a revote. Failing that, you just demand revotes and eventually, if accompanied with enough foot stomping and histrionics, you get what you wanted all along.

I wish this clip ran on just a little longer. I'm dying to know what happened next!

(3,972 posts)In the past few years, Asheville got too cold. It was frequently in the path of the polar vortices -- arctic air in North Carolina.
Asheville is a wonderful place, but the Buncombe school system had a terrible reputation. It was all very conservative, meaning they paid the teachers as little as possible and gave them nothing in the way of school supplies.

(1,849 posts)Many of the folks in the surrounding counties are antivaxers, cult 45 members and some live in that county, which is Buncombe. I'm in a neighboring county and had no idea that went on.
So thanks for sharing.
A neighbor who is a teacher and a Democrat went to a school board meeting recently, and was one of only a handful wearing a mask. They voted not to require masks when school resumes in that county, which is another neighboring county, of which Buncombe has 7.
And they are part of NC district 11, which elected meadows and cawthorn. Those are the folks who didn't used to act like vermin but are empowered and delusional now. They're attacking the one liberal zone in this area, In this region! Don't like the result, demand a recount or a revote so they can cheat?! I'll be sure to follow the news on this.

The school board didn't re-vote on the matter. Buncombe County Schools will require students and staff who don't provide proof of vaccination to wear face coverings in the new school year in school buildings and school buses.
About 30 people present signed loose-leaf paper saying they were "witnesses" to the formation of a new board, after the group of parents reportedly declared its creation themselves.
Parsons told the Citizen Times on Thursday: "They acted as a dictatorship, and so therefore, the people then take it into our own hands to abolish that governance and re-elect new members right then and there."
Buncombe County Schools attorney Dean Shatley said the parents' attempt to form a new board didn't remove the current board members from their positions......
This is crazy. Cawthorn was apparently there, supporting this group and their cause.

Lots of them across the country, having or planning temper tantrums and insurrection. Not a majority but they make a big noise and feel empowered by others of their ilk.

Madison Cawthorn crashed the Buncombe, NC School Board meeting tonight and berated the members for passing a mask mandate: You have sacrificed the social, emotional, and psychological development of our children on the altar of wokeness.
