Doctor warns Ivermectin animal paste is dangerous for humans & doesn't help COVID-19

MARMADUKE, Ark. (KAIT) - Ivermectin paste sales are on the rise at farm supply stores because some people think it can cure COVID-19.

The paste used to treat worms in animals can be very harmful to humans, according to doctors and the FDA.

The Hound Feed and Supply store says they haven’t been able to keep the horse paste on the shelves. They don’t ask what people are buying it for, so they’re unsure if it’s for human consumption.

“We’ve seen a pretty good increase in ivermectin. I don’t know if it’s from cows getting wormy or other issues. It’s hard to get right now,” said William Shaw, sales associate.

Shaw says he noticed the increase two months ago. He says he doesn’t ask why people are buying the paste because he doesn’t think it’s any of his business.

They have to restock the shelves at least once a week. Often, it’s hard to get supplies because the paste is back-ordered.

Dr. Shane Speights with The New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine says the paste can cause several problems.

“Let’s say it was manufactured for a large horse, but a human takes it, it can create low blood pressure, rapid heart rates, seizures, there are even episodes where you can see layers of your skin fall off,” said Speights. “It can damage the liver, and there’s vision loss that can be associated.”

'snip] The research team, led by the University of Birmingham and Keele University in the UK and the San Raffaele Scientific Institute in Italy, has demonstrated that fenofibrate and its active form (fenofibric acid) can significantly reduce SARS-COV-2 infection in human cells in the laboratory. Importantly, reduction of infection was obtained using concentrations of the drug which are safe and achievable using the standard clinical dose of fenofibrate. Fenofibrate, which is approved for use by most countries in the world including the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the UK's National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE), is an oral drug currently used to treat conditions such as high levels of cholesterol and lipids (fatty substances) in the blood.[snip]

I'll bet there's lots more stories of "I wonder if this works?" out there in cyberworld. Only means docs, good and bad, are searching their armamentarium. Is it any wonder there's so much misinformation all about - Please, folks, read more than the headlines! Doctors all around the world are trying out a lot of things, but it sure doesn't mean they reduce serious symptoms or cure any of the CoVid virus/variants. The vaccine(s) and common sense good hygiene recommendations when dealing with infectious diseases are the best we got to protect ourselves and loved ones! JUST DO IT!

"The Bull Elephant" is a nutty rightwing Republican blog in Virginia that is filled with all the usual halfwit lies: "critical race theory," stolen elections' Democrats are communists, and the like.

One of the regular authors is an individual who signs the name "Dr. Robert Warren," claiming to be the founder of a Republican men's group in Williamsburg VA.

He recently posted an article promoting this very stuff -- Ivermectin:

He may already have been reported to the state Dept of Health.

They will break any boundary, any barrier, any rule, anything logically sane and make it into something that will feed their self-proclaimed destiny and self-importance and narcissism. Just like TFG. It's all BS of course, but they will do it no matter what.

to treat whatever ails them rather than get a medical diagnosis and/or script - it's known to be part of the reasons that "smart" bacterial diseases become resistant! Then, too, the dose really isn't effective, and the cost likely much higher to make it effective -- we're not fish, dogs, cats, horses, cows, or even birds, or bats! We do, however, have more micro-organisms within than cells in our bodies, good and bad!

I find this extremely unethical

Why Is the FDA Attacking a Safe, Effective Drug?
Ivermectin is a promising Covid treatment and prophylaxis, but the agency is denigrating it.
The Food and Drug Administration claims to follow the science. So why is it attacking ivermectin, a medication it certified in 1996?

Earlier this year the agency put out a special warning that “you should not use ivermectin to treat or prevent COVID-19.” The FDA’s statement included words and phrases such as “serious harm,” “hospitalized,” “dangerous,” “very dangerous,” “seizures,” “coma and even death” and “highly toxic.” Any reader would think the FDA was warning against poison pills. In fact, the drug is FDA-approved as a safe and effective antiparasitic.

Ivermectin was developed and marketed by Merck & Co. while one of us (Mr. Hooper) worked there years ago. William C. Campbell and Satoshi Omura won the 2015 Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine for discovering and developing avermectin, which Mr. Campbell and associates modified to create ivermectin.

Ivermectin is on the World Health Organization’s List of Essential Medicines. Merck has donated four billion doses to prevent river blindness and other diseases in Africa and other places where parasites are common. A group of 10 doctors who call themselves the Front Line Covid-19 Critical Care Alliance have said ivermectin is “one of the safest, low-cost, and widely available drugs in the history of medicine.”

The RWNJ sites are really pushing this quack cure. This medicine is for horse deworming

Ivermectin, the latest supposed treatment for COVID-19 being touted by anti-vaccination groups, had “no effect whatsoever” on the disease, according to a large patient study.

That’s the conclusion of the Together Trial, which has subjected several purported nonvaccine treatments for COVID-19 to carefully designed clinical testing. The trial is supervised by McMaster University in Hamilton, Canada, and conducted in Brazil.....

Among the 1,500 patients in the study, he said, Ivermectin showed “no effect whatsoever” on the trial’s outcome goals — whether patients required extended observation in the emergency room or hospitalization.

“In our specific trial,” he said, “we do not see the treatment benefit that a lot of the advocates believe should have been” seen.....

The findings on Ivermectin are yet another blow for advocates promoting the drug as a magic bullet against COVID-19. Ivermectin was developed as a treatment for parasitical diseases, mostly for veterinarians, though it’s also used against some human parasites.
