(90,538 posts)About 20 years ago I took a tour to Crete, and it was incredible. Due to some problems I ended up traveling 24 hours from Santa Barbara Airport to Athens. I looked out the taxi windows and saw dry hills, jacarandas, olive trees, other vegetation imported to and thriving on the Central Coasts Mediterranean climate due to my exhaustion and disorientation, it was surreal at first.
I am so sorry the Greeks are experiencing this. I just assume they, too, are living with drought. Calling fires of this magnitude brushfires minimizes the impact.

(25,951 posts)I spent some time there in college, and it's a beautiful country. The people are lovely, the food is amazing, and of course the cultural sites take your breath away. It's so sad to see this happening. Horrific.
