(58,785 posts)because he needs it to be true. His self image and entire political existence, by his own statements over 6 decades, have been based on the conviction of his own superior righteousness and understanding and that Democrats are at best merely corrupt Republican lites.
Yet he's served for 30 years as an almost always dependable +1 vote for his Democratic colleagues' "corruption" (though that's not to be mistaken for approval .) His most important job these days isn't budget chair but to remain influential with those who believed his previous campaign messages about Democrats so deeply that they may vote against us again. So, offensive as this standard Sandersism may be to some, it's basically him doing his job. For all.
After all, the possibility of a fascist takeover, terrifyingly advanced by the dreadful losses of 2016, endangers the entire left, not just Democrats. Whatever he once hoped, we all know "our revolution" would not be left wing.
It's with great sadness that I say, you nailed it
I agree with so much of what he says, but I long ago stopped wondering why he didn't mount a campaign, and build a movement, as an Independent - if he truly was one

I have been following the Justice Democrats and its predecessor for a while including the "brand new congress group" and other groups created by Cenk, Kyle Kulinksi and their ilk. I am on the Justice Democrat email list and I have even listened once or twice to the Justice Democrat podcast which is amusingly called "Just Us" democrats. The Justice Democrats emails are fun to laugh at and I love the hatred this group shows to the Democratic Party, establishment Democrats and best of all corporate democrats. The posts attacking the DCCC for raising money to elect real Democrats are really amusing.
I have been following number of posters on twitter who dislike the Justice Democrats including the poster in question. There are a large number posters on twitter who have issues with the concept of the Justice Democrat group wanting to take over the Democratic party and remake into their image. It seems that this poster is a regular democrat who does not want the Democratic Party to be taken over by the Justice Democrat group.
This poster is not the only person who has issues with the concept that the Justice Democrats want to take over the Democratic Party
Link to tweet
Again the above posts are consistent with the hatred of the Democratic Party that I see on the almost daily emails that I get from the Justice Democrats.
If you want to learn more about the Justice Democrats just enter "Just Us Democrats" in the search function of twitter.
Hortensis
(58,785 posts)take over the giant Democratic Party, though. Democrats are real people. If 100 million real people wanted to abandon what they believe should be done to join an extremist group and stab each other in the back they would.
But vaulting ambition sounds so much better than just promising to sabotage Democratic caucuses and elections. And that they've proven they can do, whether they align as naderites to help defeat Democrats (and elect Bush II), sandersistas to defeat Democrats (and elect Trump/Repubs), or whoever they'll align with and lie for to try to splinter away support from Democrats in 2024.
Speaking of 2024, and 2022, these groups becoming better known, mostly courtesy of puffing up by RW and MSM, is a double-edged sword for bad actors who depend on deceit. As we saw when Senator Sanders ran a second time and lost a lot of his former Democratic primary support. Only Democratic voters can nominate our candidate. Sanders would have done better to dissociate himself from the anti-Democratic attack dogs who helped throw the nation under the Republican bus in 2016.

(1,725 posts)Ohio has no-reason absentee balloting, has for at least 15 years. Candidates routinely send absentee ballot application requests to constituents for them to mail or deliver to the BOE so that they can get a ballot app in the mail. An absentee application request CAME FROM THE TURNER CAMPAIGN in the freakin' mail. What lying sh*ts they are. And I didn't even use it. Requesting an absentee ballot is easy on the Cuyahoga County website - 1-2-3 and you get the app in the mail in less than a week. WTF. They are such disengenuous liars.

(67,782 posts)....how much Justice Democrats spent on behalf of Turner or against Brown. If the campaign against Eliot Engel is any indication, it's a LOT. They spent $920,000 in that primary last year - $620,000 for Bowman and $300,000 bashing Engel.
Inasmuch as this is a single primary and it had national interest, no doubt they spent as much if not more in this campaign.
And Justice Democrats is just one group pouring money into the campaign - Sunrise Movement is now a Super PAC and supported Turner, too, as was National Nurses United, People's Party, Our Revolution, and a few others.
I don't know how Sanders knows how much has been spent, the final numbers aren't in yet and the Super PAC numbers will be lagging the candidates' FEC filings. We won't know for several weeks or maybe months.
What we DO know is that as of July 14 (3 weeks before the primary) Nina Turner spent $3,867,458.80 and Brown $1,749,496.38. That's $2,117,962.42 MORE than Brown spent.
It should also be noted that of Turner's itemized contributions, 88% came from outside Ohio, and only 4% from within OH-11. On the other hand, for Brown only 52% came from outside Ohio and 39% from within OH-11.
That's quite an indication, by the numbers, of the overwhelming support Brown got from within her district compared to Turner.

....about overall spending in the race is heavily in favor of Nina Turner, not Shontel Brown if false.
ballotpedia.org/Nina_Turner_(Ohio)#Elections
Here are the numbers so far, with the glaring omissions of Justice Democrats, Sunshine Movement, and Brand New Congress.
Turner:
$3,704,491 Campaign
$104,000 Congressional Progressive Caucus PAC
$661,000 Democratic Action PAC
$153,000 Working Families Party
$4,622,491 Total
Outside expenditure so far: $918,000
Brown:
$1,748,992 Campaign
$2,000,000 Democratic Majority for Israel
$225,000 Third Way
$3,973,992 Total
Outside expenditure: $2,225,000
As of now $648,499 more has been spent for Turner than for Brown, destroying the claim that the drug companies, Wall Street, and fossil fuel industry "spending millions trying to defeat" Turner.
As I noted, this does NOT include anything from Justice Democrats or the other two groups.
For an order of magnitude, last year Justice Democrats spent $920,000 on Jamaal Bowman's campaign ($620,000 for Bowman, $300,000 against Engel) and $715,000 on Alex Morse's campaign ($440,000 for Morse, $275,000)
No doubt they approached if not completely blew through the $1,000,000 mark on this highly visible campaign and both Sunshine Movement and Brand New Congress contributed significant funds too.
When all the numbers are in the so-called "outside money*" for Turner will dwarf that for Brown.
*This has been described as "evil money" by Turner and "republican Jewish money" by Cornel West.
