Are we going to have another COVID shut-down?

The numbers are going up, vaccinated or not. The variants seem to also be getting better at infecting anyone & everyone...

Im thinking when kids go back to school it's going to get worse, since kids under 12 arent even getting vaccinated and kids are fucking petri dishes.

I just keep thinking it's going to happen again... wonder if the orders will come from states or the WH.
Here in my county in No Cal, if we were still tracking like last year we'd be in the red tier...but nobody is doing shit. Not even a mask mandate.

Just curious.... what do you all think?

Not when the death count is so much lower and virtually everyone at risk has the option of getting vaccinated if they choose to.

That's "down big time" by any measure... particularly when vaccines are available to virtually everyone at risk (which wasn't the case the last time)

Even those who are too young to get the vaccine and are back or soon will be back in the classrooms filled with others who are not vaccinated. And many in states where mask mandates in schools has been ruled illegal by kid killing governors.

There’s not a thing that you can do about the meteor headed to your living room.

The question wasn’t whether the risk from COVID had reached absolute zero. It was whether we were going to see another shutdown.

My answer hasn’t changed. There might be some limited local restrictions beyond just mask wearing and vaccination requirements… but there won’t be new wide-scale lockdowns now that there are generally available vaccines.

The risk to the majority who are fully vaccinated- particularly those who were fairly health/young to begin with - is too low to expect them to endure another shutdown. Particularly when they would be doing so almost entirely for the benefit of those who choose to put themselves at risk.

The link I posted has a state by state count which totals 320. It also has a daily deaths graph showing deaths as of 8/6 are 632, 667 and as of 8/7 632, 987. A difference of 320.

Which ever number is correct, 320 or 751, it is a small fraction of last winter.

I'd like to see the case/death reports broken down separately for the vaccinated and unvaccinated.

As to the original question, it seems like we should by the numbers, but there's also a huge political disincentive to "going back" that will dominate in the near term.

Sat Aug 7, 2021, 04:31 PM

And had stopped all travel in and out it would have been a much better scenario as opposed to what happened. I predict most of the powers that be will try to avoid any shutdowns this time. It is clear many don’t care enough about the deaths at this point, not enough to start taking the needed measures to mitigate it. If a variant starts decreasing the effectiveness of the vaccines to a larger degree we may see this shift. And I hope the same if significant numbers of unvaxed children are affected. It is clear it has been deemed more acceptable for the elderly and high risk, as well as unvaxed to die. Long term covid has not even been addressed in this equation.

The glee at deaths you see expressed on the part of some at this very site is evidence that the stupidity regarding the handling of all of this, and the lack of compassion is present on both sides if in different forms.

Protect yourself, sd and continue to mask.

Democrats won't go there and face the backlash, and there would be little extra compliance with a lockdown.

The best we're going to do is the status quo. Mask up voluntarily, be safe. Let the foolish have at it. We can win this.

We had state-wide ‘shut-downs” and limitations regionally.

No, I don’t think there will be a nation-wide shut down.
I met a fella on an elevator here in NY state and he was going on about bad Cuomo and how he is going to put NYS into another lock-down. I doubt it.

We might see mask mandates in some areas which I would find totally understandable.
I am visiting a large city in NY State for a few weeks and am masking everywhere, even when it isn’t required. Back home in NY-21 in our rural area, we haven’t been masking unless required. But here in Buffalo, absolutely. And a LOT of others are as well.

It will be very case specific.
If you are concerned, wear a mask. I hate that my glasses keep fogging up but it eases my mind in such a concentrated-population dense area.

I know everyone here is thinking "no way." I am a public school librarian in NC.

Over 50% of the people here are not vaccinated. I am sitting here on FB looking at folks on their last vacations of the summer. NO MASKS. Not a damned one.

Schools are going to be super-spreaders. I predict we shut down after Labor Day, and I am hoping I have that amount of time to sling out the chrome books and class novels.
