Gulf States Hospitals On Verge Of Collapse

Tom Bossert, a former White House homeland security adviser and an ABC News contributor, painted a somber picture of the COVID-19 crisis unfolding, saying, "It's too late for any meaningful mitigation" in Gulf states. Bossert warned that hospital systems in hard-hit states could be overwhelmed within a few days as the delta variant spreads further.

"If this pace continues for the next four or five days, which it seems it will, the hospital systems in Florida and Louisiana will collapse. That's how bad this is. By 'collapse,' I mean they will be full, their ICUs and their hospitals, they will be turning away patients".

in these days.

If the hospitals close it will be a full-court press from every RW news outlet to say this is all Democrats and Biden's fault.

And it will convince plenty of (stupid) people.

Send them in now. It's hot. No where to store anything, let alone our dearly beloved.

At least the Jazz funeral musicians will still have work.

Sorry to be so negative, but our governor, who is a Democrat, has tried his best to deal with the covidiots and I really am completely out of f...s to give.

On a positive note, in my little blue bubble in Orleans Parish, even the kids usually mask. Walmart requires masks. I see no Trump flags, nazi flags or any RWNJ crap. We're in the minority, but I think we'll survive.

They currently have 1425 ICU beds occupied. They're working off "phase II" capacity, with phase III available (by converting regular beds to ICU, but that runs the risk of staff shortfalls).

Thing is, of those 1425 ICU beds occupied 384 are for COVID patients. https://www.tmc.edu/coronavirus-updates/overview-of-tmc-icu-bed-capacity-and-occupancy/

TMC is the medical mega-complex S of downtown Houston.

“Are you vaccinated and if so, show us the documentation and if not show us the medical reason for not being vaccinated.”

Simple triage.

Send the willfully unvaccinated and infected people out to the FEMA holding area for bussing to field hospitals.

There they will get water, food and a cot.

Hurricanes, flooding (coastal and inland) tornadoes and extreme wet bulb temperatures.

"“When wet-bulb temperatures are extremely high, there is so much moisture in the air that sweating becomes ineffective at removing the body’s excess heat, like what happens in a steam room,” said Colin Raymond, the study’s lead author who conducted work at Columbia University and is now a postdoctoral scientist at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory. “At some point, perhaps after six or more hours, this will lead to organ failure and death in the absence of access to artificial cooling.” "

all employees, staff and volunteers. Almost immediately, a protest was organized and they were out in front of the hospital picketing. They have FREE-Dumbs. They have choices. I guess the hospital does, too. Maybe they didn’t think of that.

I do not want the staff that is taking care of me to put me at risk from Covid. Not any more than can be helped. I realize there are breakthrough cases of vaccinated people but UNvaccinated people are a much bigger risk of exposing me to Covid.

Our numbers are going up daily here in NW Florida. I dread the day when there is no more room for anyone.

Here in Tallahassee.

I need to get an operation - sort of elective since it is not yet an emergency - and have been getting tests to make sure my heart will be OK. The stress test, last of those, will be Monday. I was hoping to get clearance then.

Now, even if I do get clearance, the operation may be put off months - which could lead to complications.

I'm pissed that our idiot governor has put our state in this situation and that he has encouraged the TFG cult members to screw over our systems. I hope this tanks all his chances at higher elective office forever.

… elective surgeries at my local hospital before they shut down for COVID in Feb 2020. The rehab was as advertised (rugged) but my quality of life is far better. This past year I’ve been reading that docs have been concerned that people are putting off routine tests (ie mammograms) and things like having that funny lump checked.

Except for emergencies.

Mines a midline hernia - it blew out at the incision point where they took out my kidney almost four years ago. The surgeon said it is not an emergency but with time could get there so he wants to do it as soon as possible. But since they replaced a heart valve just before removing the kidney, he wanted me to be sure my heart was up to full anesthesia yet again.

Yeah, I got my colonoscopy just before everything shut down - was supposed to get hemorrhoids done a couple of weeks later but that only got done three weeks ago. In fact, in the last month, I have caught up on my dental stuff, eye checkup, had the foot I broke last November checked out (it still hurts but it's healed and will probably always hurt), and set up for my annual checkup with my family practice doctor. I should get a mammogram but I just had one two years ago and hate the whole thing. Since I know exactly where my lumps of scar tissue are and find no changes, I am sort of done with mammograms.
