I hope this covers the reasons why she voted against the bill to fund the Capital Police days after the 1/06 commission formed and the Afghan translators seeking asylum. Specifically, the bill would include $31.1 million to backfill overtime for the Capitol Police until the department can hire and train additional officers, and $4.4 million in trauma support, including six new mental health counselors, according to the bill summary.
Congress passes $2.1 billion Capitol security bill
The bill would also provide money to help Afghan translators in the wake of the U.S. withdrawal of troops.
WASHINGTON The House and Senate on Thursday passed a bill that would secure funding for the U.S. Capitol and the Capitol Police in the wake of the Jan. 6 riot, which was at risk of having to furlough officers without additional money.

In an unusual display of speed for Congress, the Senate had voted 98-0 hours earlier. The bill includes almost $1 billion for Capitol security $100 million for the Capitol Police, $300 million for security measures and $500 million for the National Guard, which concluded its mission at the Capitol in May.
The bill also includes roughly $1.1 billion for the special immigrant visa program to assist with Afghan interpreters coming to the United States as American troops withdraw from the nation's longest war.

The vote comes just days after the Jan. 6 select committee convened its first hearing, hosting a panel of four police officers who were defending the building against the mob of then-President Donald Trump supporters.

She has stated on multiple interviews how she herself was traumatized and had to hide in a closet, yet voted against trauma support for the officers that were on the front lines for a dozen hours while being beaten, gassed, slurred and died to protect members, like herself in both the Congress and Senate.

(52,120 posts)People seem to love to find fault with aoc, and of course newer politicians will be imperfect.
But this? C'mon. Should Obama have shunned national attention when he was new to the senate?
A better politician would have declined this?
No way.
StarfishSaver
(18,486 posts)And yes, Obama DID shun national attention when he came to the Senate.
People forget - or maybe never knew - that Obama did his best to lay low in his first years as a Senator, eschewing high profile activities and putting his nose to the grindstone. He frequently reminded people that even though he was very famous, he was 99th in seniority in the Senate and he behaved that way. Obama often turned down speaking engagements and awards that he felt were intended to play on his fame but weren't really deserved or where his presence would overshadow the message or other participants. And when he did agree to speak, it was usually at campaign fundraisers to help his Senate colleagues or at nonprofit organization events when he felt his presence would make a difference for an important cause.
Hillary Clinton did the same thing in her first Senate term. Among other things she made a point of never doing Senate press events alone, but appearing only with her Senate colleagues and of working collaboratively with other Senators instead of going it alone.
By doing this, they both earned the respect of their colleagues who saw them as serious, hardworking Senators who were willing to do the unsexy work required of the job and not grandstanders trying to grab the spotlight.
That said, Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama were Senators representing states, not representatives of a district. Also, Hillary Clinton was a former first lady and major public figure before she took office. So comparing AOC to them is apples and oranges. She's not in their league.

(67,782 posts)The other three have gotten at least one piece of legislation passed in the House, she has none. And she's introduced the least number of bills of the four, too.
