Sen. Dick Durbin says Trump was building up to a coup, and when asked if the former president could face criminal charges, he answered, "I don't know yet. It's too early in the investigation," which is not a no.

(6,495 posts)As much as we want it to happen. I would be satisfied if they would weed out and arrest members of Congress who assisted and backed this coup. At the very least, when roles are shown, some censorship (what do you call that...Letters of Utter Contempt for You) and the booting of them out. We need to clean up. But, we'll never get this guy. Trump always has a fall guy between him and what he did. Anyone will do for him. But, I think that, if he should die, we shouldn't see a grand national funeral for him. I don't want to see him lying in State, or buried at Arlington. I mean, his war was the Pussy War, wasn't it? Filthy creep...

I have.
Remember that "right to a speedy trial"? That applies to the prosecution. It doesn't apply to the defense. But it does mean that the prosecution must have iron-clad evidence ready to go when the perp is arrested. And in the case of a public figure, that applies exponentially. And in the case of a public figure who is likely to have armed supprters show up at the courthouse with pitchforks and torches, we are talking logarithmically.
Sure, it would be nice to know how the investigations are progressing. But nobody would love to have that information more than Trump** himself. I'm cool with him not getting it, even if that means I don't get it either.
This is not a game nor a TV show. It doesn't wrap up in an hour.

What we have is a system where the wealthy and powerful get to do what they want and the rest of us have to do what they want as well.
I am beyond disillusioned.

Accountability rests with the Democratic Congress, probably in the lame duck session 2022. They need to do what the GOP would do - something unequivocally political.
