Opinion: Joe Scarboroughs Ignorant Anti-Socialism Exposes Dangers of Conservative Ideology
.
.
Well, it was really a moment of political opportunism for Scarborough to bash socialism, out of a complete ignorance of what socialism actually is.
Scarboroughs anti-socialist rants, though, in addition to ignorantly characterizing socialism, were oddly timed for this pandemic moment in a way that actually exposed and clarified the dangers and backwardness of conservative ideology, starkly highlighting the small-government and states-rights elements that enable racism, sexism, and other repressive authoritarian politics.
What Scarborough described as socialism was DeSantiss statewide anti-mask mandate, prohibiting businesses, schools, organizationsanyone and any entityfrom requiring people wear masks on their premises to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus. Scarborough went to town on DeSantis, confusing top-down government stupidity with socialism. He ranted:
Sounds like a socialist to me. When youre a governor of a state, and youre telling businesses, small businesses that they cant run their businesses the way they want to run their businesses, to keep their stores safe, the way they think they can keep their stores safe, and also when youre telling local school boards, banning them from taking safety measures in their own areas.
Florida is like five different states. So go tell somebody in Broward county, a local school board in Broward county, that they must do the same thing that happens in Walton county, ten hours, twelve hours away, its just ridiculous big government, one size fits all socialism. It doesnt make any sense.

With the pompous (or pomp-ass) ignorance that Joe commands, he seems the kind of guy that hotboxes his own farts.

(20,629 posts)Florida, stating that no more than 30% of first responders in his community have been vaccinated. Scar has done umpteen rants about the need to have all teachers vaccinated prior to the start of the school year (which I totally agree with, BTW), but he's simply using this as a cudgel to bash the teachers' union.
Does JS feel the same way about those that will potentially be the initial care providers, should God forbid, he or one of his loved ones were to be involved in an accident or taken seriously ill?
Me.
(35,454 posts)more out than in lately despite being paid 8 mil per annum. Isn't that what he would condemn as socialism...free money?
