The battle waged by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) against mask and vaccine mandates is facing challenges on multiple fronts.
His ban on vaccine passports was temporarily blocked by a federal judge late Sunday: Norwegian Cruise Line was cleared to require coronavirus vaccines for guests and crew members after U.S. District Judge Kathleen Williams granted the company a preliminary injunction, blocking a Florida law championed by DeSantis that would have fined the cruise company for requiring vaccines. DeSantiss office said Monday he will appeal.
A prohibition on vaccine passports does not even implicate, let alone violate, anyones speech rights, and it furthers the substantial, local interest of preventing discrimination among customers based on private health information, his office said in a statement.
Coronavirus protocols in schools are also in the spotlight as the head of the countrys second-largest teachers union on Sunday shifted course to signal support for vaccine mandates for teachers to protect students, especially those under 12 who are not old enough to be inoculated.
A group of parents of disabled children in Florida sued Friday to block the states ban on mask mandates in schools. Florida education officials moved the same day to give students access to a state voucher program that helps pay for private tuition if their public schools require masks an acknowledgment that some schools in the state are moving ahead with mask mandates despite the law.

(42,552 posts)why wouldn't they be able to require a vaccine passport? And why isn't DeSantis outraged! about regular passports? So intrusive, all that tracking of every place you've gone outside the country.

(6,169 posts)With any luck, the residents of Florida will decide they've had enough of DeSantis and deny him a second term, which will also put a damper on his presidential ambitions.

(1,988 posts)constitutes "private health information". Being vaccinated against a public health risk isn't private, neither is not being vaccinated.
I guess my measles vaccination is private and schools can't require that of kids, right? Wrong. 100% wrong.

The mind boggles.
Obviously, he doesn't get how infectious diseases work.

(17,003 posts)thats why he should be president because he wouldnt trample on states rights like that. It would completely energize the puke base. I truly believe DeSatan was counting on Biden doing just that. Now hes screwed himself so far into the corner he has no where to go.

(10,270 posts)You're damn right its discriminatory. It's also perfectly fucking LEGAL, as being a goddamn walking petri dish is NOT a protected class. What he wants is for his plague-rat voter base to not have to have their widdle snowflake fee fees hurt cause the rest of us dont want to get sick and die for their freedumbs.
Desantis thinks if he sounds like hes making a liberal type argument to a judge it will just fly. I'm glad the judge told him to go get bent.
