SCS [Memphis] reonds after lawmakers threaten to call special session to ban mask mandates in school

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Shelby County Schools opened their doors for the first day of class on Monday and it’s not without some concern.

The start of the 2021 school year is starting with more Covid cases in Shelby County than on day one of the 2020 school year. This year most kids will be in school, and not at home. Virtual learning is an option, but without teacher instruction.

Now Tennessee Republicans are threatening to call a special session that would ban school districts from mandating masks.

“I fully support a special session of the legislature to rein in the power of local health departments,” said state Sen. Brian Kelsey (R-Germantown) on his Facebook page. “Our Shelby County Mayor should not be able to force parents and publicly elected school boards to require their children to wear masks—and certainly not in private schools either!”

This district spent $24 million in high-end air purification systems in all schools.

Why do they not worry about their kin getting the most virulent and infectious mutation of covid yet. What is up with them?

If they keep it up, schools will eventually have to shut down again.

To protecting kids by mandating masks.

I guess more "family values."

The sentiment in the title of this post will have exactly the same effect on this situation as anyone who says this is a recipe for disaster, that students in the Shelby County Schools will indeed get sick, and some of them will die from Covid-19.

Simply observing an appallingly horrific situation and knowing the outcome of that situation does not call the imminent disaster into being. If you want a story about bringing things into existence through the simple power of command, I suggest reading the first chapter of Genesis.
