Chuck Grassley Argues On The Senate Floor That Trump Has A Right To Plot A Coup
Standing on the same ground that was attacked on 1/6, Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) claimed on the Senate floor that Trump has a right to plot a coup.
Chuck Grassley Called Trumps Coup Plot A Robust Discussion With His Advisors
@atrupar
"The president has every right to discuss ideas & strategies with his closest advisors ... for robust discussion" -- Grassley is talking here about Trump's attempts to scheme with the DOJ to overthrow a free and fair election https://t.co/JjItHbsW99
Chuck Grassley Seems To Be Saying That It Is Fine To Plot A Coup As Long As A President Doesnt Do It.
Sen. Grassley seemed to be suggesting that plotting a coup is just locker room talk. Unless the government is actually overthrown, then it is no harm, no foul.
The problem is that the 1/6 attack was more than talk. Trump funded the rally, his White House communicated and coordinated with the attackers, and he incited the attack.
Trumps talk of trying to force the DOJ to overturn the election is part of a broader plot. His pressure on the DOJ and the 1/6 attack are part of the same thread, and no Sen. Grassley, presidents do not get to plot coups after they lose elections.
Thats not democracy. Thats authoritarianism.

(51,438 posts)Sedition is overt conduct, such as speech and organization, that tends toward rebellion against the established order. Sedition often includes subversion of a constitution and incitement of discontent toward, or insurrection against, established authority. ... Seditious words in writing are seditious libel.

(31,106 posts)would be done already.
Unfortunately he wont be indicted because in America the media will NOT allow it.
They will make it impossible so that any party or DOJ that did indict him would be attacked constantly by the media and the right
and the media and right would completely delegitimize them etc.
We let them get away with calling the media liberal, this is our fault, the nations fault.

(18,114 posts)Under federal law, sedition occurs when two or more persons conspire to commit certain actions against the United States (U.S.) government. The conspiracy to commit such acts is sedition, whether or not the actions are actually attempted or carried out.
conspiring to take down, overthrow or destroy by force the U.S. government
levying war against the U.S. government
opposing the authority of the U.S. government by force
hindering, delaying or preventing any U.S. law from being carried out
taking, seizing or possessing U.S. government property via force

I never liked him as a politician, but I at least used to have a modicum of respect for him. No more now... ya done burnt that bridge, old feller. Might as well go off and retire on a farm somewhere...

(3,064 posts)He's been a Senator since 1980 and will have served for 42 years when his term expires in 2022.
And he's talking about running for re-election in 2022. That'd make him 94 should be win again. Hell, run in 2028, Chuckie. You'd be a 100 year old US Senator. That is just beyond ridiculous.
Just his defense of The Dotard's coup plotting should at the least get him out of office and hopefully jail.
I don't give a fuck how old he is.
