I was just browsing the CA state COVID dashboard. It occurred to me that the county I live in plus the neighboring one have approximately the same total population as Arkansas. I was curious how we stacked up...

We've got about 100 available/empty ICU beds. Arkansas has 8.
We've got about 200 people hospitalized for COVID. Arkansas has 1400.
We've got about 50 of those in the ICU. Arkansas has 500.

Our case rate is spiking too, with Delta (maybe not as badly, but it is sharply up). But the vaccines work -- fewer hospitalizations, fewer ICU admissions, fewer deaths. Our total population fully vaxxed rate is about 75%, double that of Arkansas at 37%.

This mess was totally avoidable.
