SF authorities seek to identify "egregious coyote feeder" from this pic. she sets out plates of meat

San Francisco authorities are calling on the public to help identify a woman who has allegedly fed wild coyotes in the city, an act that can lead the animals to lose their fear of humans.

San Francisco Animal Care & Control said in a statement Wednesday that it has received reports of feeding in multiple areas and shared an image of an individual whom the agency has identified as "a particularly egregious coyote feeder."

The image was captured on a camera on Bernal Hill and shows a woman with a platter of meat sitting on the ground as she feeds a coyote.

"The same person allegedly feeds coyotes in other locations around the city," the agency said. "If anyone can identify this person, please call Animal Care & Control at 415-554-9400."

It is hard to believe this woman is so clueless about the harm she is doing, but as we've seen with other large groups (cough, er, eh, Trumpists) we have a lot of determined ignorance in this country.

The odds on some of those coyotes not having to be destroyed when they get into trouble with the behaviors she is creating is likely slim and none.

There also seems to have been a big crop of fawns this year -- excellent food for coyotes.

Read that in National Geographic about 15 years ago...for what it's worth...
It was about wolves in the Yellowstone area...

When they lose their fear of humans, they have been known to attack small children as prey. They already eat household pets at a great rate. Coyotes need to be left alone, for their sake and ours.

The coyotes would sit on a hill next to us hungrily looking at our cats. Who wisely stayed in our compound. One coyote was moved to the foothills 50 miles away. Released in the morning, back home by late afternoon. He had to cover a lot of urban areas. They are awesome. But better in the wilds. I got standard poodles based on my vet telling us minimum shoulder height to counter the coyotes.

because the coyotes come and eat them. They need to go eat the excess bunnies, rodents, etc.

Very bold coyotes were soon running through the neighborhood.

City brought in a professional coyote hunter to wipe them out.

Everyone loses.

I don’t know if she feeds the coyotes but she puts out food for all the other creatures including deer and skunks. I would not be surprised if she fed the coyotes.

Luckily she seems to have moved on to her home in a retirement community. I’ve long joked with my Dh that I feel bad for the next person that owns her home because alll the creatures will be expecting handouts. But really someone will buy her house and raze it, so it doesn’t really matter.

For now her yard has gone feral; somehow that is fitting.

The dang awful coyotes moved in & ran them off. Those animals are dangerous to all other animals, wild & domestic.

They killed my friend's geese.

Shame on this woman.

“Ran” is a bit of a misnomer as I’m hobbled with a knee brace but I snarled and waved my arms. The coyote was just up the road from my place and was crossing the road.

I don’t feel bad about harassing them. I have hens. They have a hen Fort Knox, but still I’m certain the coyotes check out the enclosure each day. I can see their tracks when it snows.

As awful as it is to say: they should be shot.

My friend in KY, a DUer, I think has seen tacks around her hens too.

I think it's nice of the "egregious" lady to put out some feed for the coyotes. Hell, they're there and they're not going anywhere---they're the most adaptable animal on the planet---and if the lady is giving them ribs for breakfast instead of the neighborhood cats, more power to her.

or some more coyotes try to avail themselves of the free meals they'll start snacking on the neighborhood cats and small dogs anyway, because they've had all the fear and caution of humans trained out of them.

We need to let wild life be wild. I once worked at a place where some "kind" woman set out plates of cat food for the feral cats - and then complained when she saw skunks helping themselves!
