Republicans are either bullies or want to be on the side with the bullies.

I think, sadly, there is an instinct in humans, like fear and greed, that make a lot of people side with the bullies. In a small isolated and self governing community, when a bully and a sensible person disagree, it is bad for your community to side with the bully but the sensible person won't kill you just because he thinks you might not worship the ground he walks on. It is possible that evolution has selected us to respect people who brag and wear expensive things.

Even when you know that red is red and blue is blue, when the bully says red is green, there are a lot of people that start seeing green.
There are a lot of people who will drink the cool-aid even when they know it is poison.

At this point, the Republican cult has mostly driven off the weak unbelievers. Most of the individuals who can deal with the cognitive dissonance in a constructive way have realized that two plus two equals four, poisoning children and old folks is bad and following leaders who cannot tell the truth.

In my youth the Conservatives had to veil their lies and they were mostly able to avoid telling more than a couple of obvious lies in a short conversation. Now it starts with an insane, evil and obvious lie and escalates from there. The desperate need to clearly belong with the bullies has driven then to insane radicalization.

But the logic of this is simple. If the rational and compassionate people win this fight, nothing terrible will happen to most of these people. If the Republicans win, the hanging, shooting and burning will start. Fascism is a fire that demands more hatred and more destruction. When the bullies take over, they have to out bully each other to prove themselves.

So you go along with the bully in hopes that they won't target you.

Their mantra is "I can give orders and I can take orders".

It also explains their fascination with pedophilia, with sexual harassment, with "professional" wrestling, with "owning" liberals, and...well, make your own list.
