Socialism and capitalism aren't exactly mutually exclusive. You can have socialism for shared benefits, like airports, roads, fire departments, health care, etc, and capitalism for innovation. Corporations will, by their nature, be greedy, so if the rules are set up to allow the corporations to be greedy only within strictly defined limits, then things work OK. If corporations are allowed to be arbitrarily greedy, and the socialist part is dismantled, then you get what we have now, which is borderline fascism.
