(26,403 posts)The City of Denton is within Denton County. However, Denton County also has many other suburb towns including Lewisville, Flower Mound, and parts of Carrollton, Frisco, and Plano. These cities, along with the many townships in the County are very red as a general rule as they represent exurbs who escaped Dallas and Fort Worth in order to be more homogeneous.
Or TL;DR - The City of Denton is a blue oasis in the middle of a very hostile red (intellectual) desert full of people whose cities started growing when they fled school desegregation.

(37,449 posts)over vaccines mandate, It could very well be the signal that they will not uphold the Governors in Texas & Florida and others on masking as a medical necessity/
[link:https://www.nytimes.com/2021/08/12/us/supreme-court-indiana-university-covid-vaccine-mandate.html|]
The Supreme Court allowed Indiana University on Thursday to require students to be vaccinated against the coronavirus.
Eight students had sued the university, saying the requirement violated their constitutional rights to bodily integrity, autonomy and medical choice. But they conceded that exemptions to the requirement for religious, ethical and medical reasons virtually guaranteed that anyone who sought an exemption would be granted one.
Justice Amy Coney Barrett, who oversees the federal appeals court in question, turned down the students request for emergency relief without comment, which is the courts custom in ruling on emergency applications. She acted on her own, without referring the application to the full court, and she did not ask the university for a response. Both of those moves were indications that the application was not on solid legal footing.

(2,640 posts)A majority of the people that live in town, around the college, are more left-leaning.
But there are still plenty of wingnuts in the surrounding burbs.
It's definitely a red area.

(3,064 posts)The Texas Lege promptly overturned it. The nerve of a city of 125,000 being concerned about their drinking water and pollution. This was the city only.
The City also declared itself a sanctuary city. And now they're defying Abbott's "freedom to make your neighbors sick" edict. I lived there for almost 30 years.
They're not afraid of doing the right thing.
